Question about Rem 40XB

I'm likely buying the rifle shown below, I know next to nothing about Rem's or 40X - have started doing some reading, but am not able to figure out what the bolt/screw is at the rear of the action, opposite the bolt.

My best guess is a thread in/out bolt release?

Also, would this be the original wood stock beneath the paint and pin stripes?

I'm told it has a nearly new Dennis Sorenson barrel (Canadian), 2 oz Shilen trigger, bedded, weighs 9lbs with no scope.

I seem to like older rifles and think this would be a fun way to up my BR shooting a little. I've shot a local club league for 2 years now (100, 200, 300 score) with factory rifles, and see this as a nice step up for a reasonable cost.

Yes, someone's idea of a better bolt release. More than likely the trigger has no bolt release built into it, so a separate bolt stop was required. No, no factory 40X stock has this shape..

I would not buy till more is know about the rifle. I own a 1970s 40X Rangemaster, as it came from the factory. 27" barrel, S2.

The factory BR stock had a flat forearm, like someone took a saw to it.

This thread has photos & info on the older 40x rifles. Link

Not sure what this is? Something to removes slop in the bolt? 20220124_161204.jpg Whats the silver part of the scope? Somethink to increase magnification?

An expert will come along soon, we can both learn. A test fire, to see how accurate would help. 5 shots, 4 groups, should average 1/2" or less @ 100 yards.

@Field_2_Fork Dennis Sorensen is a gunsmith in B.C. Canada. AKA guntech on HuntingBC. Got a very good rep. You could probably get some info from him on that rifle on that site

Heres a view from the bolt side.

And the rest of the items that come with the package, lots of brass some loaded, some primed, (a fair bit of which is new I believe), dies etc. $1100 (Canadian) for the package - without the scope.

Good deal if the bore looks new. Check the fired brass neck dia vs a loaded round to confirm its not a tight neck chamber.
