Question about front rest bag tension

Just wondering how much side tension to put on my 3" fore end in my front rest bag. I'm using a new Bald Eagle non windage rest with a 3" bag and I feel that it needs to be tighter. Just a thought ..... If there's a suggested tension. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Darrin

In competition, legally it must be loose enough so as to be able to lift the stock out of the bag without lifting the bag. It must be tight enough to minimize or eliminate sideway movement from muzzle blast from the neighboring bench(es). If you shoot solo, it doesn't much matter.

I prefer to crank mine so tight that it is difficult to lift from the front rest but doesn't actually raise the rest itself out of place. How much "lift" transfers to the front rest depends on stock fore end design; fore ends that have wide flat bases and are tapered throughout their long axis tend to lock up pretty solidly while straighter sided fore ends tend to be less difficult to lift from the rest.

I really do appreciate all the EXPERT advice. This is the best forum on the net and the people on here are what it make it great.

Each to their own thoughts on side bag tension..My thoughts are to set up with no tension, this way tension will not lesson during you string of fire.

I think the tension just needs to be snug enough to not let the gun move left and right. You can tighten too much and cause bad tracking by the stock binding. The bag needs to be soft enough to not induce vertical. It also needs to be flat so gun doesn't rock. Matt
