after firing and before resizing, should I be able to slide a bullet into the neck? would not being able to indicate the brass needs neck turning?

thanks,
Al

If it doesn't drop in then you have to turn necks. You have to establish the neck diameter of your chamber to see just how much you have to take off.

Yes! The bullet should readily drop right into a fired case. If you have to push the bullet in, then the necks are thickening and need cutting to give that need/required clearance.

The necks can be reamed which is metal removed from the inside of the neck. Or outside neck turned which removes material from the outside of the neck.

or....
this has happened.....
the brass is too long and the mouth will turn in as it hits the end of the chamber neck. and now it maybe smaller than bullet dia.

so before everything else check case length.

The bullet does not have to drop into the case, some resistance is fine. So long as you can slip it in with your fingers.

To dovetail with stool and zfast..

My .3325 no turn wasnt working as intended. The pressure ring was a tight fit at the mouth but would slip freely when into the neck. Brass was a tad long and was curling at the end of the chamber.

I think zfast makes a good point as well. Measuring the neck od of my brass and comparing to a chamber cast, I think I was getting about .001 springback. So if you are able to push the bullet in byhand, even if a little snug, would maybe be a clean release while the brass is expanded to the chamber wall.

Things to ponder from a new 30br owner..

FYI, if running an ejector it can damage the mouth and on a tight chamber be enough to not allow bullet insertion after firing. In lieu of measuring I have used my expanding mandrel to check for resistance even though it is undersized from bullet diameter. JMHO
