Question About Crone v. Whitley 6BRX Chambers

I'm looking at reamer prints for the two reamer styles, and am NOT well informed on how to interpret the information on them. The Clymer print isn't as legible as the Whitley..but is readable.

I've read that the Whitley chamber is longer, but I'd like to know where specifically on the print I can see the differential between Crone/Whitley reamer dimensions.

Thanks,

George

The Crone is longer. Bolt Face to case shoulder is approximately 1.197. See case measurement on this sight for 6 BRX cartridge.
The Whitley is shorter 1.171

See attached PTG Whitley drawing

You're looking at measuring base to shoulder, not case length. Both cases are over 1.5" in length.

Both the Clymer/Crone and Whitley show a bolt face to beginning of the shoulder as 1.171....

AS I READ THE PRINTS....the Whitley bolt face to end of the case is 1.563, and the Clymer/Crone shows the same dimension as 1.570.

Comments?

You are looking at OAL.

Look at case capacity! Crone is .026 longer at the shoulder.

DJ--I'm struggling to understand this....not trying to be argumentative....just dense when it comes to things like this.

On the Clymer print of the Crone, from the bolt face to the beginning of the shoulder, it says 1.1710", and the JGS/Whitley print for the same dimension shows 1.1717.

I'm looking for the .026 difference. What am I missing?

Thanks,

George

Be very informed if you plan a purchase from PT&G, a BRX reamer. 6BR brass needs 1.563" chamber length to be able to close the bolt to Fireform a Lapua 6BR case. He has sold dozens of BRX reamers made off the old Remington 6BR brass, 1.520". He will gladly fix it for you, after waiting months for your barrel to get back from your smith, just to find out your bolt won't close on Lapua brass. The charges are 75.00 plus freight. Been there done that. That reamer print of his needs purged from his files.

To answer a couple of questions,
Reamer-bolt face to shoulder measures 1.197", longer than the Whitley chamber.

Reason for false shoulder method of fire forming.
I believe that neck tension with bullet jam is not sufficient from preventing the case from being forced forward by a strong firing pin blow. This results in the cartridge stretching at the base when forming. Not conducive to long case life. The false shoulder plus tight neck tension and jam ensures the case blows forward at the shoulder, as intended. That's my rationale. In addition, I got better shoulder forming with heavy 105-107 grain bullets than I did with 70 gr bullets. My $.02.
