Question about Bedding Blocks (Chassis)

I have owned two rifle stocks with aluminum bedding blocks or chassis. The bedding block in my Magpul Hunter has a V-shaped block that contacts the Rem 700 action in two places at each action screw location. My Bell & Carson stock has a bedding block that is shaped in a curve to match the action contour.

Which system is better and why?

Depends on the individual tolerances and how that fits your action. Generally speaking the odds are more favorable that a vblock will fit better than a full fit curvature from the factory. That is why you bed, to insure fit. I will say that my rifles and others I know that have a vblock have all shot very well in fclass, can't speak to br. I have also removed metal from the front of the vlock in order to bed the recoil lug; can't say it shot better but easy insurance.

It might imitate the curve of the M700 action but rarely if ever does it MATCH that curve exactly. This is the reason we bed all Remington M700 actions used in bedding blocks.

Here is an article reviewing the Magpul Hunter and has a detailed set of instructions as to how it should be bedded:

I've done rifles both ways a multitude of times (because I lost count) and I get the rifles to shoot in either style. The quality of the bedding and attention to the whole system of the rifle will be the proof, not just the bedding style.
