Question about bedding base.

I would also like to add MOA to cant the scope for longer range. If bedding is a good idea, why should one not just bed it with the cant already in? My issue is I need 30MOA added and I can only find the 20 MOA bases for the $40 range and 40 MOA bases for $100+
Currently I can dial up only 16 inches and down 40 at 100 yards. I need more that the 20 for 1000 yards with my bullet / vel combo. The 40 MOA might not work at 100 with other loads based upon the trajectory??
Also the Devcon I own is FREE and just labor I could have a 35MOA base out of my stock 0 MOA.. :
The scope base is 6 inches long how much would .020 bedding (shim) add ? ( my quick math .060 =36MOA?)

Troy: One of my setups is a 20 moa base (Bat one piece) with the + and - offset inserts ( .010") on the 30mm Burris Signature Zee rings, giving me a very wide choice of scope cant.

If you're using a 1" scope tube, the inserts are available at .005", .010" and .020" so they would provide even more than the .010's that come with the 30 mm rings.

Not a permanent installation, and can be changed to many different configurations & scopes.

And, as always the case with the nylon inserts, no ring marks on the scope tube. The Signatures eliminate the need to ever use shims under the base mount.

Should I ask this in another spot? I know most people would just shell out the cash and get the "right" rings and bases. I however am CHEAP and this is my budget build the wife thinks I do not need.
I heard some people add shims to one piece bases so they fit better, less stress. Does anyone have any experience adding .040-.050 (height) to one end and then devcon bedding the full contact surfaces to ensure no stress? The compound cures like steel so I would think strength is not an issue. I might need longer screws on one end but .050 is not that much.

Troy: Sure, you can do that, but if it were I, I'd try just the shim first. I'd start with .030" under the rear & sight-in the rifle to see where you are. If not enough, go to .040". When you get the right combination, then add the Devcon under the base. Nothing wrong with doing it that way.

I have shimmed a 0 deg pic rail as Frank mentionned and it works fine. It was shimmed by .030'' in the rear. The purpose of this was to get the scope's elevation adjustment in the middle of its range.

I agree that trying the shim would be OK for a test. I would Devcon both surfaces in the end to get both the front and rear surfaces in-line with each other and have good contact with the action, be careful to use a good release agent on all surfaces that you don't want to bond to.

I Devcon bedded the base and it works just perfect. I added about 36 MOA of elevation. It got me out to the thousand yard line very well, However my 20 inch barrel left my loads a little slow. 2650 fps calculated to 1188fps at 1000yards but it was not so in real world. Accuracy at 300,600,800 are great. The pits said at 1000 I had oblong holes, which help me feel better about the poor score.

The oblong holes may be you barrel is not stabilizing the bullet, try a shorter bullet.
