Question about 115gr in 8 twist

I am dropping off my new Krieger 6mm 8 twist to my smith to have a 6x47L done. My question is will it stabilize the 115gr bullets?

Maybe - in summer conditions with some other optimum factors thrown in there you may be fine. Years ago, Berger's recommendation for that bullet was a 1:8". Try it and see.

Maybe, Kreiger can be a a tenth over or under.check it your self. A bartein will work at a 1-8 because it will be a true 1-8. DTAC seem to work very well in mine.....jim

I have tried 115 DTACs and Bergers in 2 separate 8@ twist barrels without any luck. They did not work well in either, couldnt get them to work while the 107 and 108gn bullets worked fine. It must have been very marginal in mine and maybe my barrels were on the slower side of 8". Some people, whos barrels must have been on the faster side did have luck with them.

Hi,
I have just finished working up loads for .243AI with 115g Dtac and VLD's in a 32" Broughton 5c @ 3150fps , Wow they work, but you have to run them hard hard n hard and then clean your barrel often, I dont think barrel life will be great, but dam they can shoot, I've used them to 1200, I'm not convinced they are any good till about 600 but I'm still working on that.

I run the 115 DTACs in my 8 twist 243 they shoot better than I can. Its got a 28" douglas that has about 2600 rounds though it. They shoot well also in my wifes BRX ( 8 twist pac nor 3 L&G), but it likes 105s better. They work well in my new 243 (8 twist pac nor). Hope that helps. If velocity is above 2900 you should have no problems.......... 3 X yes for me!!!

Peter, with a 26" barrel I think you will not see a gain with the 115's. If they are a 100fps or so slower you might be at a loss over the 105's. Try the BIB 108's I gave you. Did you shoot it yet?

I could never get Berger 115's to work at all well in the 25" 1:8 Schneider 6XC barrel I got with my T2k. DTAC 115's worked OK though the Berger 105VLD worked even better. When I went to a 26" PacNor 1:7.5 the Berger's worked but still not as well as the DTAC or the 105VLD, which absolutely hammered.

Now I'm shooting a 30" 1:7.8 Bartlein fitted to a Quadlite action, sold all but a few hundred of the DTAC 115's I had on hand, shoot Berger 105VLD's at 3150 fps for 600 & 1000 yards with excellent results.

I think the Berger 115 needs a minimum 1:7 to work at all.

Glenn,

I haven't shot it yet. I am going to try and shoot it Friday after work. How many rounds dis you put through it for the break in? Thanks again for everything.

The B115VLD works fine in my Krieger 1:8 twist 6mmBR at temps in the 50s and above but I saw no reason to use them because the velocity decrease almost exactly offset the BC increase vs the 105VLD. I don't know if this would be true with other cases, but I decided not to risk the possible instability for no real gain.

Peter, I did at least 20. When I cleaned it, the last time it cleaned up good. I would do 10 rds. and clean for the next 100.

Sounds good. I will do that.
