Question 30 plus moa mounts

For the most part when a new scope arrives at my door they are already close to center.

Yes, they're typically 1 MOA max error from center. Too bad company's don't provide customers the clicks from left and bottom stops to optical center

If your scope has 50 moa of adjustment, and IF it is zeroed at 100 close to optical center, you could gain 25 moa using base and rings. you would then be able to come up 50 moa for longer ranges. If you zero at 200 you will only gain about 1 moa, 300 about 3 moa and so on out to farther and farther zeros. You are correct, it will depend on the rifle, caliber, velocity. If you are able to use all 50 moa from a 100 yard zero, a bullet with a .560 g1 traveling at 3000 with go out to 1200 yards before you hit the trans sonic zone, and you will run out of adjustment just a hair over 1400. To make it to 1500,which is right at the speed of sound at sea level, you would need to zero at 400 yards to gain enough elevation adjustment.

Another consideration in this situation is if your Reticle has MOA graduations on it. Instead if using the center of the crosshair, you aim low, gaining however many MOA are on the reticle, and then at distance, aim high using the graduations below the crosshair. My vortex viper has 10 moa above the cross, and 20 below, for an extra gain of 30 moa in addition to the 50 moa adjustment you would have with your elevation knobs.

So we shoot a 6.5 creefmoor at 1 mile with a Precision rifle with a Vortex 6x24 pst, we have a 20 moa rail on the gun and 30 moa in the burris rings and it takes 57moa to get it to a mile,that's 107 moa ,and with the at the bottom we have a 800 yard zero..What we are shooting is a Sierra 142 match king at 2850 fps
