Quarter Bore Is Close Enough To 6.5 For Me!

Been away from this site for a while but now I'm back I sure am enjoying the informative and sometimes confused – even heated threads that make up the 6X47, 6x47SM, 6XTubb and 6.5X47 family of cartridges! As impressive as the 6.5X47 Lapua pressure and velocity figures are though I’m still going to stick with my K250,.25X47SM with Ackley shoulder) and to hell with the less than brilliant selection of bullets! After all I only need it to shoot one .25 projectile well anyway!

All I do is hunt deer, coyotes and varmints with my "quarter bore," the good old .25-06, but it sure does seem to get the job done nicely.

I haven't had any complaints about it not being a 6mm or 6.5mm of some obscure origin!

So what bullet are you running in your .25? Regards, Guy

Barrel twist was chosen to work with the lighter bullets available,not many of those either mind you!) of the 80 something variety. The 87g Berger is what I use for deer, fox and competition position shooting here in the UK.

From the bench it will print half-inch 10-shot groups and is more accurate than frankly it needs to be. I don’t consider it anything more than a 300-yard rifle though and frankly no longer try and hit what I’m likely to miss or wound. Not that you can make a NBRSA target bleed of course!

Sounds like a nice calibre what twist barrel are you going to use and what projectiles?

It will give you a 250 Savage AI ballistics how things come back to where they begun it worked then so it will work the same now.
