Quality control of reloads

What do you guys use to check your loaded ammo for quality control?

How do you check your fire formed brass.

Or do you test by shooting at targets?

Do you test each step of the reloading process?

How about bullet alignment?

Hal

I perform the following checks:

1. Check fired cases for defects and any signs of incipent head separation although I retire my cases before this usually can be a problem.

2. Check for proper sizing with a Wilson Case Gage since I do not want to oversize or undersize my cases. Very important for me for my hunting reloads.

3. Visual check of primers for proper seating.

4. Weight each powder charge when using stick powder - this is more of a process item than quality control.

4. Check Overall length.

5. Once I get over 6 reloads, I spot check neck diameters to assure it's not over max.

And, be consistant!
Get a routine and stick to it.
Don't be distracted while you're reloading.
Double check each powder dump.
Keep good notes.
If they're all going in the same hole, or close, you did good. ;)

Exactly what K22 and Mike said. And if you do any of the items twice, all the better. Only keep what you are currently working with in front of you on the bench. If you make a mistake, you can make it many times in a row before you realize you are making it. I check my powder measurements on a 2nd scale several times during a batch and look at the power in the cases with a flashlight twice. I also chamber the first few rounds in my rifle (outside) before seating all the bullets because pulling a few is easier then pulling 50. Label everything and may the force be with you.

Bullet alignment?

When seating bullets, I seat it half way then lower the ram and turn the case about 180 then finish it off. I then use a Hornady Ammo Concentricity Tool to check for runout. The jury is still out on how much value this adds but I like it myself.
