Q? regarding 6mm Int'l

I am new to this forum and need some insight.

I know that there are a lot of variations out there for a 6mm. I am interested in finding the cartridge dimmensions for the 6mm International. I can not seem to locate it on the web and since there are several variations of the 250-300 or 22-250 modified to 6mm, I need to know the difference. I am looking to simply full length size 22-250 brass for a 6mm bullet in the RCBS 6mm Int'l dies.

I want to shoot bullets from 80 to the occassional 105 A-max, will a 1-9" work? I will be happy if I can get 2800-2950 with the 105's. I know that most guys are shooting 1-8" for shooting 105's and 115's but is it necessary for a 105?

*I see that RCBS makes a 6mm Int'l die set, but am not sure about some of the variations that are out there.

I am looking to build a 12lbs. rem 700 to hunt, target shoot, and enjoy. I want to be able to load the magazine and 22-250 brass is plentiful and less expensive then some other variations like tubbs, 6x47, etc...

Thanks!

There is a 6mm Remington International which I believe was designed by Mike Walker who worked at Remington and they chambered their 40X for it. There was also a 6mm Donaldson International with a bit shorter neck. I had a reamer but couldn't find a used set of dies so sold it to some guy in France. Cannot really tell you the technical differences but think the Donaldson had a bit less body taper and was never real popular from what I have found.

As for the 6mm International RCBS made and may still make a set of form dies as I have a set of dies yet and form dies. Sold my reamer and a set of dies as the XC came about so went that route. You need to push the shoulder down about .10 on a 250 case as I believe the Rem Int has about .370 neck length. Go to Clymers website and click on reamer diagrams and you can download reamer prints from their site if that would help.

I used the 6MM Rem Int forming and sizeing dies to push the shoulder back a bit to form XC brass before it was available. Did 550+ cases that way with no mushroom, splits etc. worked great!

Believe the 1-9 will be marginal for the 105Amax. Perhaps a 1-8.5 may work but my XC, 6x47L's are 1-8 and I don't have to worry about things if I got to the 105VLD or 107 SMK.

Think most now just do a 6-250 or AI and few mess with the International anymore as velocity/accuracy are comparable.

Hope this might help a bit.

there is also a 6mm-intl. in sierras loading manual. its the one designed by mike walker. hope this helps, treeman
