Q re Proper Load Length from Lands

This may be a stupid question. But that’s what a forum is for, right
When measuring from ogive to the lands how much variance will you give? I am loading 223’s my Hornady comprador says it’s 1.803 to the lands. I can turn or twist the bullet and change the reading 2 or 3 thousandths. What would you start with to find the best spot. ?

I went through all the loads and found the one that gave me the best group then started with 5 bunches of 5 deferent lengths from ogive to the lands and found the best group was jamed up tight, no jump. The grouping was good for a hunting rifle at 100 yards but not good enough for me. Any suggestions would be appreciated

No one has any suggestions on how I can get any better groups? Is 223 just not a good one to try to get a good shot with. My barrel is 14” to 1 round and I am shooting 40 gr. Vmax The best I have been able to get is 5 in about 2 1/2” at 100 yards. I wouldn’t thank that’s very good

After 23 posts in this thread, we still don't know what your load is. That should be the starting point. Please tell us the bullet brand, weight and style; and the powder type and charge weight. Without that information, it's tough to help you.

Next, are you asking too much from your rifle? Is it an ordinary AR-15? Are you using a scope or iron sights? Groups measuring 2 1/2" at 100 yds wouldn't be horrible for a bone stock, iron-sighted AR.

Finally, are you asking too much of yourself? How's your eyesight and bench technique?

Probably best to start a new thread.
You won’t have as many people looking to help with load data, when the title of the thread is basically “how do I measure loaded length”.

Include type of rifle, bullet, powder and primer to start and any data you have already collected. Then those using the same combination can be more help.
