I asked a major barrel manufacturer if they'd chamber a barrel for me with me providing the reamer. I was told I'd have to provide go and nogo gauges along with the reamer. Are reamers usually provided with them?

is it normal to ask for those gauges? It doesn't seem to make sense. I'd like to provide a reamer with the freebore optimized for the bullets I'd like to use (6mmbr). the chamber, from the neck area back, should be aansi spec so I assume any standard set of headspace gauges would suffice.

thanks for the clarification. Is it normal then to ask the maker of the reamer to provide headspace gauges also?Even given the brevity of Butch's answers, he has covered the problem.
If you choose to supply the reamer, the barrel maker has no idea what type of chamber it will cut or whether or not it's SAAMI spec. It's their job to provide you with the chamber you want so you are responsible to supply the gauges for that reamer. It's a CYA move which insures that you get what you ask for and it's in your best interest to supply those gauges.
Regards.
Another $120.

Where do you buy yours? I think PT&G beadspace gauges are $37.
