Put a "PORT" in your Bullet Puller!

I use a Quinetics "impact" hammer type bullet puller and I hate having to screw the cap off every time I want to empty the powder and removed bullet.

So I cut a port into the side of the puller and it works like a dream!

I put a few pictures of the modification on my web site if you are interested....

Not sure I understand the problem. You have to unscrew the cap to remove the brass. So what is the port saving you? I also use a hammer and find it a pain to have to unscrew it but its because i need the brass not the bullet or powder. Even if you need the bullet, you cant just leave the brass there. You have to remove it somtime. A little confused.

Me too ............. ???

This is my solution. Quick, easy, doesn't damage bullets

You don't have to unscrew the top all the way to remove the brass.

Roy, that's a neat idea. I'm looking to put "interrupted threads" on mine so it will twist on and off in a flick of the wrist.

That is a neat idea! Also try using just a standard shellholder for the cartridge you are pulling to replace the chuck. Just put it in place and viola! It works great!

A standard shellholder works great compared to the segmented/split version that is held together (mostly) with an O-ring.

Great idea Roy! At least if the hammer will hold up. I've broken a couple. I still like the idea, though.--Mike Ezell
There is always a better way Roy. You and I think alike as in: Look for a way to improve your product. There will come a time when you can't improve anymore.

Dang. My o-ring is nearly worn out and I've been going to search for one to replace it. Now I don't have to. That's why I come here to learn from the experience of others, because I never figure this spit out on my own. :)

I do the same...way faster and less cumbersome.

As for the port thing...I have no idea how that functions. I see a problem of powder being broadcasted all over the floor that flies out of the port?...

Yup.....and for the life of me I can't retrieve the case without removing the top.......maybe cryo would actually work in this application by shrinking the case to fit through that port. ::)
IMHO it's not a matter of IF the plastic body breaks at the window, but when.

But then you really DO need to remove the cap to get the brass out.

On my two Quinetics bullet pullers a simple 1/2 twist of the cap and the chuck releases the case and it just falls out. No need to remove the cap.

I use a business card and an elastic band to cover the port when the case has powder in it. The bullet is heavy enough to deflect the card and drop out. The powder will feither come out of the port or out the collett once the brass is removed.

Slick as a greased weasel!
