Is the new barrel finished or a blank?old topic new question. I have a new barrel that is not installed on an action currenty. The total length of the barrel is 26 1/16” long .900 straight. What should my tuner length be according to this method? I know it’s a ballpark. Thanks!
Langley just finished it.Is the new barrel finished or a blank?
Ballpark guess 29” from closed bolt face to end of tuner. I would suggest using a tuner weight. (Extension) to get that length. I can’t get the Purdy spread sheet to work. I’ve sent you the Purdy RX instructions via DM on Rimfire Accuracy site so you can get a more precise answer.old topic new question. I have a new barrel that is not installed on an action currenty. Lee,Mark,
Barrel 26.0625 divide by 8= 3.2578125 x 9 = 29.320312 - 26.0625=3.257812 tuner length you need to subtract .402 most likely as the EC would use the threaded part of the tuner where weights screw on plus the crown depth this will give you the tuner length from the end of the barrel to the end of the tuner.
FYI, I don't believe in using this method to tune as I believe presetting the tuner will overlook a better setting possibly at least from my past experiences.

HOW DO I GET THIS TOOL?
The link to the spreadsheet is at the very bottom of Tony's postI haven't used it in a long while but there used to be a sticky thread on rimfire central that had the program in it to calculate it yourself, with your specific numbers. EC is different on some tuners. Not knocking it but I did a fair bit of testing and found I could tune with or without prx, just as well. YMMV.
