Purchase a Leupold VX-7 2.5 - 10 x 45 or 3.5 - 14 x50 ?

Probably have more money than sense :-\, but decided to buy an Armalite AR30 in .338 Lapua just because ::). I'll be doing mostly long range target shooting with the possibility of some hunting on occasion. I'm a top 5% (open sight) service rifle competition kinda guy hence, other than spotting scope optics, I'm a bit of a novice in the rifle scope arena. Have done a little homework and think I've narrowed it down to either a Leupold VX-7 2.5 - 10 x 45 or VX-7 3.5 - 14 x50. Would appreciate any thoughts that might help me invest in the one that will make me smile every time I look through it. ;D Also, would like to have a removable (30mm) scope mount system that returns to zero as best as possible as well, thus thoughts on that topic would be great too.
All the Best,
John

I think your money would be better spent on a Nightforce or S&B the Quailty is far better than Leupold when you are talking that price range.

Appreciate your thought on this issue. Got to admit, I'm partial to Leupold because they have a great reputation for quality, stand behind their products and have excellent customer service. That said, the price tag is a bit high and I'm not sure if the bang for the buck is the best in the industry these days... as you have pointed out. Perhaps it's time to take a hard look at the brands you mentioned and do a little more homework instead of just trying to figure out "which Leupold" works best. I do like the pop-up Wind and Elev knobs !. Thanks for again for the thoughts...

You will find after looking at the really top Quality scopes there is no comparision they are top end. Leupold is a mid-range Quality scope. For people that can't afford too buy the best. Not to say by any means they are bad just they are what they are a good medium grade scope. The VX-7 is still a medium grade scope with a high grade price! Those pop up knobs are just gadets and are really good for nothing. You might want to look a the March scopes they are also top line scope. I just hate to see anybody spend hard earned money and not get what they are paying for. If you can afford the best why not get it. If you ever decide to sell your scope at a later date you will always get most of your money back on a Nightforce, March or Schmidt & Bender this is not true of most of the other scopes. Just look at what they are getting for the used ones!!
