Leupold VX 6 7-42 question

I have been looking at a new ftr scope and the Leupold vx 6 caught my eye. I know that this is a brand new scope and that it has just started shipping. I currently have a nightforce benchrest 8-32x56 and I have been more than pleased with it. However, I am looking to shed a few ounces. My question is has anybody handled this scope yet? I know there was a review done on this website back in January and one done on snipers hide in August of last year. I am in a toss up between the Leupold or a Sightron Siii in 8-32 x 56. Thoughts? Once again, for weight savings and for an ftr rifle (Nightforce 36 ounces vs Leupold 26.3 ounces vs Sightron 26.5 ounces). Thanks in advance for your input.

The Nightforce Competition weighs 28 oz. There are some smoking deals on 2013 models, like $1600 or $1700 at some dealers.

While I applaud Leupold for trying to catch up with the competition, you can get a 2014 NF competition (28oz) for the same price. I'd pick a NF over a Leupold every day of the week.

cpshead: Just one of my beliefs, others may disagree. I am not a believer in buying a new product, whatever it may be, when it first becomes available. Too many chances for there to be "glitches", many from questionable design problems, that will not become known, (even to the manufacturer), until put into actual use, and over at least a short period of time.

A new model automobile is a classic example. Everything looks and seems perfect when new, but many times there are "surprises" when it is subjected to life in the real world.

A very well known rifle & shotgun manufacturer recently came out with a new small carry pistol, and it has proven to be a complete failure. So much so, that they are taking them back & exchanging them for a redesigned model. Remember the 223 WSSM? Remember the E-Tronix electronic priming system? All were marketed with the promise that they would make everything else obsolete, you gotta run out & buy one, right now. Where are they now?

Also if that "new" model is then re-designed, and an upgraded one is made available, the value of your older one that may have known defects and shortcomings, will take a nose dive.

I'll take a product with a time proven record of reliability everytime. JMO

I have a sightron siii 10-50x60, and I have been happy with it, and it is significantly lighter then my fathers nightforce 10-42x60. And it is quite a bit cheaper.
