I was set up over the pumpkin field by 9 am this morning. Here’s a view of the field from my truck.
And here’s the T/C Encore in 204 sitting on the hood of the truck keeping cool until duty calls.
I’ve been using the Savage 22-250 at the farm up until now. I need to give the Encore some exercise.
It was at least an hour before I saw the hog come out into the field. I caught movement off to the right at a ranged distance of 165 yards. Got out of the driver’s seat, walked around to the front of the truck, picked up the 204, found the hog in the crosshairs, settled my breathing and waited for the hog to stand up. When it did I let go a Hornady 32 grain V-Max to the chest cause that’s all I could see behind the pumpkin plant the hog was munching on.
Here’s the walk up. Notice the exit wound.
Here’s the other side. Notice the entrance wound. It’s a nice size female.
And here’s the size comparison shot.
After the photo session I heaved the body into the woods and headed back to the truck.
Not much more than a half hour later a second hog walks out of the woods. Same routine, out of the driver’s seat to the front of the truck, pick up the 204, find the hog on the crosshairs, settle the breathing and wait for the hog to stand up. Once I see the chest I send another V-Max down range. Thwack! Two shots, two kills. This one ranged at 155 yards.
Here’s the walk up. That’s the entrance wound. It’s a nice size male this time.
Here’s the other side. This time there is no exit wound.
And here’s the size comparison again.
I heaved the body and walked back to the truck. I decided to call it quits for this pumpkin patch session. Have work to do at home. And besides, it was starting to heat up.
Hope this is sufficient evidence and vindication for the come upance I got for trying to claim a hollow victory a week or two ago. I guess I deserved it. Looking forward to the next adventure!
