Pumpkin galling ? vs PMA?

I guess I had too much free time on my hands today and I decided to go through my neck turning tools... I whipped out the K&M played with it a bit and adjusted the cutter, it cut ok..I am not thrilled with having a hex bolt for a depth adjuster but it works, if not a little too small for my hand... I then decided to finally whip out the pumpkin .30 and try it... what I find is that the cutter is leaving odd marks on the brass, vs say PMA (which I love) which leaves a more cleaner cut. The brass thickness seems to be fairly consistent between the two but these odd symmetric marks in either direction from the pumpkin are odd. I am attaching a picture the pumpkin is on the left (looking at the photo straight its on the left hand side) and PMA on right.

You can see the 3 rings on the Pumpkin brass. Does anyone have experience with the pumpkin to explain that?!? Makes me wonder.

I have used pumpkin many times, never had that issue and always looked cleaner than your PMA turned brass.

Question?

Did you wet tumble the cases in the photo?

I'm wondering if peened brass flakes got stuck under the cutter.

nope new cases. I got the pumpkin from another member on here I mean I didn’t check the cutter very closely but looks ok to me

Things I would check, mandrel fit, lube, speed, feed- how fast did you move it across the neck.

So initially I expanded with K&M mandrel, things I have changed:

1. Expanded with Pumpkin Mandrel
2. decreased feed rate
3. cleaned the cutter.

Seems to be quite a bit better, thanks for the tips.... I am using my Dremel Driver with PMA holder, I am thinking of going to Black Widow motor (they make the TRIM IT II) or something of the sort that is stationary. I still have not found the holder for the cases I am in love with. All seem to be off center. I have 21st Century (likely best), K&M and PMA holders.

Don’t know if it makes any difference. It’s been 2 years since I turned a case. After I cut to the shoulder I move the cutter back and forth on the neck doing a skim cut. It looks good. I think it still cuts a little each pass. I have to use the. K&M expander to get good fit on the cutter mandrel. Getting the case neck round with an expander before cutting seems to make sense. I use plenty of lube on the mandrel.
