Pulling Barrels - Simple question

If the action uses a pinned recoil lug, can I still swap barrels the same way I would with an integrated lug? i.e. leave it in the stock and use a rear entry action wrench/barrel vice? Or does it require some additional tool to give the lug more support.

Mike, I think you may want to put a little lube on the front surface of the pinned lug, between the barrel and lug, but leave the surface between the lug and action dry. I bought a custom rifle last year that had dual pins and when I took the barrel off to rechamber, the pins were sheared off. Don't know if I sheared them of or if they were already that way. Barrel was not particularly hard to remove, so I think it was that way when I got it. Lubing the interface between barrel and lug seemed the only strategy to help prevent this. Interested to know what others think about this. Also interested to know how the sheared pins can be repaired.

Joe if those pins are below flush and pressed in (im sure they are) the only thing you can do is get a carbide drill on them or edm them out. I would re-pin them in different holes or just forget it had pins to start with.

Dusty, the lug is bedded pretty tightly in the stock, so I just put it all together hand tight then put it in the barrel vise and did the final tightening. It is shooting a lot of 1/4 - 3/8 groups so I think it is OK. BTW, this is a 22 Spitfire, a 30 Carbine necked down to 22, lots of fun.

The pins should be pressed in the lug with clearance holes in the action. A little pick work and they should fall out.
