I haven't used mine in a while. I forget if it's got a 1* or a 1½* angle. Dave Kiff will know.
The 223 version I got for a Savage that I was putting together to piddle with 223.
That whole effort was snake bitten from the start. The short version goes...
I didn't have a dedicated scope, and I was making changes to the stock shape along the way. (it started life as a Savage F-Open stock) So I was constantly putting on a scope and taking the action out of the stock.
As a part of all that I ended up at various times load testing with a loose scope rail, then loose action screws, tried lots of powders trying to get 90VLDs to shoot, had squib loads, loads with bad neck tension, it seemed that I committed just about every mistake you can make trying to get a load with that effort. I think I put 700 rounds through it and never found a load.... but a lot of that in the end was when I discovered the loose action screws and nearly tossed the whole thing in the trash at the range. (they were loose for months when I finally figured it out) I put the 223 thing down for a yr or so.
I have since put a 223 barrel on another rifle using Kiffs 223 90VLD reamer and it works great. I love it.
Bottom line, I think I could go back and get the rifle to shoot now, but I don't have the time nor the need. (still don't have a scope for it) That was one of those efforts where everything just seemed to never be right.
I have used one of the uni-throaters for my 308s and think it works great. I have no doubt the 223 works, I just never got my act together when I as working with the barrel that it had been used to throat out.
