PT&G problems - Advice or help

I had ordered a reamer from Pacific tool and gage and finally recieved it about exactly on schedule to what they told me. After opening it there was not a print included so I gave them a call. I need the print to send to whidden for a custom set of dies. I had a copy of their print but figured I would contact them for an electronic version to send over to whidden. After receiving a print from them it did not match the exiting print I had. I called back to see if they could verify which print they used for the reamer that I received. I talked to two people that evening and was informed they would send it in a few minutes. I never recieved. Since that night 18 days ago I have called 9 times, left two voicemails, talked to three different people whose names I can remember, could be even more for all the names I have forgot, and the last three calls Friday, Monday, and today all resulted in the same thing: we will send you a print by the end of the day. I have yet to get anything. I have since missed the deadline with whidden to hit their current batch of dies which probably put me out another 12 weeks.
Has this happened to anyone else ?

Thanks
Brandon

Yep, well it used to when I called them. The girl you talked to yesterday isn't in today, and the one you are talking to has no idea about your order.
Now I call someone else and don't have any of these issues.

Take a picture of the print and email a JPG to whidden.
I always approve a electronic file (print) before they do the grinding, thats the only copy I ever get. But at least its on my computer for ref.

Personally I think Dave at Pacific has got to big there is not single employee there that knows the same thing I would call again an ask for Kelly Cain she does all the reamer stuff be persistent she will help you.

Thanks for the replies. To clarify I have two prints for the reamer design and have no idea which they used to cut the reamer. I did not approve any print electronically, I talked to someone and ordered it on phone, 8 weeks later it came to my doorstep. I do not have the reamer, it was sent to the smith for the build.

And thanks for clarifying on the rocket science stuff.

Someone knows the which print went to the shop floor for grinding, finding that person may prove to be a challenge.

Every one makes mistakes, but PTG ranks at an all time high for me.
This company screwed up every transaction for me in 2015,
ya can't get any better than that. They still owe me 26.00
for a part I returned last Dec, claiming they cant find it.
The company would be better off if the office staff didnt find their way
to the building. LDS

Sad to say but it happened to me also. I've tried for 2 months to get my bottom metal. I've litterly talked to at least ten people. All of them said they would get it figured out. Finally I told my story to a manager. I said I just wanted some one to treat me fair and respond to my situation . She told me she would . Still hasn't happened. I just keep getting pushed to the side. I've tried everything...... Doubt I'll ever see my bottom metal or my money again. Now I have to order somewhere else. I'm going to be out almost $500 because I had to buy it twice. I can only hope this finds its way to Dave and he gets this straightened out.

Very disappointed Kalif Redden

OP,
To eliminate the Rocket Science
(a description & # are acid etched on the reamer)

Say an employee at PT&G had said print in hand to grind your specific reamer.

Are any & all measurements exactly to the 1 ten thousandths of an inch &/or a second angular throughout the grind?
Highly Unlikely !!

Measure TWICE & Cut ONCE

Placed prominently upon the desk of my first ever boss/owner was a plaque that read "The Speed of the Boss, is the Speed of the Gang". This was nearly 50 years ago and I have never forgotten that. Take this bit of wisdom however you see fit.

Take the parent/basic print of the reamer.
Measure to your hearts content.
Annotate measurements onto parent reamer print.

It's not Rocket Science.

Considering that there is no physical point on the reamer where one can determine the bolt face point of reference along the central axis of the reamer, the measuring process is a bit more involved than one might think.

Sparker , on all the PTG Reamers I have 56 I think , they all have a etched line indicating the headspace , which should be your bolt face .

Exactly! Years ago before the business was the size it is now Dave ran a tight ship and was the premier "person" to call for a reamer, however that was then and this is "NOW"!

When the business got to big to handle Dave had to start hiring people to help, business got bigger, hire more people, on and on till it is in the position of hiring people off the street. Tough position to be in, especially in his type business (he's not selling burgers and fries) where employee expertise is very necessary.
Dave is a very good and honest man that really "KNOWS" his business (that's what got him in this situation), unfortunately he just isn't a good business man when it comes to hiring and running the company.

This is his situation, and he probably knows it, but what will he do is anyone's guess, personally I hope he gets/hires a business manager that understands the business, then things could show greater returns and happier customers.

I'm not trying to appease the OP, just explain to him what is going on and not blaming Dave and PT&G totally. My next reamer will not come from PT&G because of their business situation meaning lack of expertise and organization.

I wish he would just fire all those "i'll fix it girls" and hire some military handycaps. They would appreciate the job, be able to answer the phone, and probably know what a reamer was. I got a ruffing reamer inplace of a finishing reamer and when I called to say I was sending it back because it was wrong the girl told me she would have to charge me a return fee. I finally had to get hold of Dave and get it straightend out. They will not have another chance.

That is a stellar idea!!!

the company is headed for a major train wreck, building a foundation on a sand bar in the middle of the river....crying shame.
