PT&G Bottom Metal Question

Bully

Silver $$ Contributor
I'm looking at a build after this "season" is over, meaning next winter. I am thinking to use PT&G bottom metal on the build and am, for several reasons, looking at the DBM that takes AR magazines.

Has anyone used this? Any reviews? Does it work? Is the inlet specific to that unit or is it the same pattern as M5?

Looking for any advice. PT&G isn't all that helpful. Great products, a bit sketchy on the tech end.

Thanks.

I inquired about this last year. I was told by a very well known rifle shop that they work very well when installed properly. They can be difficult to get the inlet exactly so that when the magazine is inserted it is at the proper height. I would contact a shop that has experience installing this style of dbm.

Topher,
I have one of the PTG bottom metal for the 700 SA. The mag release lever goes up the outside of the mag box and needs to be inleted. Easy to do. Other than that it fit really good.
PTG specifies use C Products mag only. Also there is a modification to the receiver where the bottom metal meets the receiver. PTG has the procedure on their website that explains the modification. I did not do this modification to my receiver and when using C Products mags my 223 or 300 BO feed properly.
The feed lips of the C mag are significatily thinner than other mags.
hope this helps

Do you know if the basic inlet is Badger/M5? Or something different?

The one I got flat out does not work! I went thru a progression of trial and error to and including opening the receiver to PT&G specs and I never could get it to feed reliably.
Maybe they changed something, different design maybe, but the one I have is a piece of excrement.

If you have a problem feel free to contact customer service for a check and inspect. We sell hundreds of DBMs a month and have very few problems. We also offer DBM install services for customers who get over their heads or just want us to do the install.

I did contact customer service. Spoke at length with the guy who designed it. Modified my receiver per PT&G specs and it still doesn't work.

I talked to Drake, he is the one who does the DBM installs, he said you are welcome to send in the complete rifle and we will find the problem and then discuss it with you. Let me know and I can have the paperwork to send it in done up for you.

Hello Don.
Thanks for responding to my thread.
Any chance you can shed some light on my original question: is the inlet on the AR DBM a modified BDL or is it a modified Badger M5 pattern?

The PTG AR DBM has the same footprint as the BDL. There is work that must be done to the stock and action to fit it though.
