Prs bag question

I'm a lonley silhouette shooter and I've only seen videos and read about prs. When did hauling a heavy sand bag around become a thing?

For a solid base on irregularly shaped objects like roof tops , cattle gates , etc..

There are bags with different fill materials available also.

Thank you but I do know why they are used.

I was curious to see when they came to be used? Was it always allowed or is it a newer thing?

around 10 years. some goes as much as to have a 12x12 bag that wraps around your neck for crouched shots etc. I use a schmedium and a sled bag for mostly everything. any stand up shots on a barricade of some sort, I sometimes use my tripod to gain stability.

The AG game changer came out in 2016, which is basically the gold standard for PRS bags.
I'm sure there were other bags being used before but basically everyone is using something similar to this now.

I shot some “police/tactical” matches in the early 2000’s, just outlaw matches without the structure or sanctioning oversight of the forthcoming PRS - we didn’t have stuff like the Gamechanger or Fortune Cookie, and arca was nowhere in sight, but we shot off of bipods and rear squeeze bags, or over backpacks. Much more refined today. Not all of it translates to all forms of field shooting, but frankly, I take a spexlite filled MFC hunting up mountain now. I carry a glass filled MFC and a Schmedium Gamechanger to PRS matches.
