Protektor Dr. rear bag question

cncmill

Erick Crouthamel (Crouthamel Precision)
I want to order a Protektor DR. rear bag for my rifle. They have the Dr. bag (slight slope) and the flat top Dr. bag. The rear of my stock is 1/2" at the bottom and parallel with the front of the stock. If I would get the flat top bag, would that hurt me when I am at ranges that the longer distance targets are up a slope?

Thanks,

Erick Crouthamel

If you call Protektor, I think that they will be able to build you a bag with a slight angle. Also, one of the projects that I have yet to get around to is an angled spacer for my short range benchrest bag/stock combination.

I don't believe it has hurt me, using a flat top DR bag, but I don't ride my stock on the bag directly - I ride my stock on the ears, so slight changes in angles don't seem to make a difference. I haven't been on a firing point where the angle was so high that my stock was touching in the front (or back). If you ride your stock on the bag directly, you're experience might be different...

I have an all leather dr flat top bag and shoot 1000 yards. If I was to do it over again I would order it with a slight taper 1/8" and go with the short leather ears, not the mid height, also I would have them do 2" ears rather than the 4". If your stocks 1/2'' flat, I would order 3/8" ear spacing. I like my stock to ride on the stitching.

I use a Shehane bag. Smaller than the Dr bag and larger than the deluxe bag. Kinda in the middle. Is nice and compact and not bulky. I use a McMillan st-1000 with it and it really works well. I had a couple DR bags and found them way too big and would always get in the way of my arm/hand/shoulder shooting free recoil, plus the extra dead weight to lug around is a pain.

Protektor will definitely hook you up on a configuration that you want. Just have to communicate what you want really well so both of you are on the same page.

It shouldn't if you ordered a bag with Tall ears.

How severe are the slopes?

I would say 10 deg. max.

Thanks for all the reply guys. I have a friend that has a few different bags that he is going to let me try before I buy one.
