Protektor Bumble Bee rear bag for McMillan BR

I'm wondering if I need a 2 or 3 stitch for a McMillan (standard) light varmint stock? I think i'm going with the mid-ear cordura. I called Protektor and they couldn't give me a definitive answer. So for you guys that shoot the standard McMillan benchrest does the 2 stitich give you the proper spacing?

Thanks,

Ryan

Ryan,

If you have McMillans standard BR stock which is rounded on the bottom you need a 3/16 ear spacing. When filled with sand the ears will almost, or will be touching on the bottom. In other words if your stock is shaped like a factory Remington stock this is what you need. My Edgewood bag which I use for my standard BR and factory stocks has this spacing. The Edgewood has only a single row of stitching. (www.edgebag.com) If it's a McMillan Edge stock which is flat on the bottom you'll need a wider 3/8 ear spacing. The ears will have a definate gap between them on the bottom so only the sides of the flat bottom stock will ride on them. You don't want the stock to ride all the way down on the bottom. This will give you mucho fits! My Protektor DR bag for this type of stock has a center row of stitching with a row on each side to give the 3/8 ear spacing.
Consider paying them to fill your new bag I feel it's worth the extra $$$ you save the hassel of filling and don't have to guess just how full is full if you haven't done it before. However be fore warned if you have them fill it with Zircon heavy sand it WILL be heavy. My Protektor DR bag weighs 16 pounds 11 ounces!
If you are still confused on what to order call Sinclair, ask thier advice. They'll be happy to help you even if you are not buying the bag from them.
