Protector Bag Question

Im ordering a new Protecktor flat top doctor rear bag. Do I want the leather, codura, or slick silver ears?

I have the slick silver ears . It is a year old getting pretty thin in a few places .Should have went cordura or leather .

I believe you made the right choice sir. I have the leather and it very quickly wore right thru the first layer. Kind of like an outer polished skin, so to speak. I thought I was pretty careful and I don't own any big heavy magnums, but I am disappointed with the leather personally. To say it another way, my next one will be cordura.

Yep, and if you want more you can spread some coconut oil on the top and it slides even better.

I have used a Protector rear bag with the slick silver ears and a Edgewood front rest bag with the slick silver material several times each week ever since they came out with this material several years ago with great success. I think it is the slickest of the available materials and I have had no wear problems at all.

Me personally like leather. Been using it for years on wood, fiberglass, delrin... Absolutely no issues. I don't like a super slick setup. A little bit of resistance is good. That's what I. Like. I've had them all...always go back to leather.

Well, you do understand that you do not have to use it right??? Cordura is not going to rot, so you can use many different lubes. I tried coconut oil because it sure works fantastic on a cordura archery tab I use. The maker suggested it, I just tried it and it works, don't scare deer either. It's also a pretty good shaving oil if you shave with a straight razor...that's why I even had the stuff. I admit, I probably wouldn't have went and bought any, but since I had it......

We are lucky enough to have a hardware store nearby that carries "heavy" sand. I think it is also called zircon or zirconia sand?? But, I have gone to Lowe's or Home Depot, etc. and just bought white play sand and if you need it heavier in the bag you can always mix in some small shotgun shot. I used like #8 or #9. I don't really know that it's necessary though.

Edit: if there's a place that carries sandblast sand I would get the bigger grade. The problem with real fine stuff is that it manages to seep out of the bag somehow. Sand and guns just don't mix.

Dude, I was just as skeptical when I heard it..."coconut oil....whiskey tango foxtrot???" I don't know if it will do this for rifle groups, but here's what it did for my recurve:
