Proposed Dixieland shootout.

The friend from whom I got the yard sale Mutt (Cobra 6mm Dasher) told me today that he was assembling another yard sale rifle. This one features a 50 year-old 40X action. He has added another barrel in 6 Dasher and Dusty Stevens is fitting a BR-type stock to it. He asked me would I write an article about the two rifles for this forum. I will if there is any interest and the Forum Boss agrees to it. Does any one care to see two yard sale finds perform? Both rifles have been modified. The Mutt takes this challenge seriously.

Of course, James. I always enjoy your writings.

Before we get started with this "adventure", I will post these pictures of some of the contributors. Murry Crowe-chambered 6PPC for Mutt.

It may take quite a bit of time to get everything ready, but we plan to be a new "Dasher Dome" a little farther south. We may never have the notoriety of the Tennessee gang, but we shall put our best foot forward. As a matter of fact, we challenged the Dasher Dome boys to a postal event a few years ago, and our 4-man team shot its targets. Although the Dome crew agreed to the match, they never followed up with the shooting. Maybe Covid 19 hit and interfered....dunno. I will say this, "The Dasher Dome crew has much better (read more expensive) equipment than do the Louisiana/Arkansas shooters. PS- Our 600 yard range is over the pond, through the woods, and I guess we may change from "Dome" to "Swamp".

I am not sure what water does to accuracy, but the Mutt shoots the range very well. I got the Mutt with only the Krieger 6mm PPC barrel. I bought a 7.5 twist Krieger and Dusty Stevens chambered it for the Dasher. The stock was so ugly that I had Joey Jarrett of Young.s body shop to paint it. Below is a 3-shot group that I shot over the pond and through the woods with the Dasher.DSCF6009 (2).JPG

I hope that we in the Swamp Dasher Dome are not violating any copyright laws. LOL I haven't decided what course of fire and what will be included. I may shoot both the 6PPC and the Dasher in the Mutt. The 40x will be shot with the Dasher only. I may chronograph with my old Oehler model 35 or maybe not. Setting up is a real pain. Depending on the weather, I may forego the over the pond 600 yard shooting (hard to set flags). I will probably shoot mostly at 200 yards at Kent Bennett's range. (shown below).DSCF4058 (1).JPG
