proper pronunciation of "lapua"

I heard a guy in a gun shop say it as sa ro ski. I’ve never heard whether that is proper or not.
I was once told you pronounce it Swore Off Ski. What the hell. If people can't figure out what I'm saying I'll show them a picture. If they can't figure that out they can go somewhere else. I call them all "ALOT OF MONEY".

I pronounce it " 'spensive"

I wonder if that's really true. I don't have any scientific data to back up my feelings about the cost of Lapua brass, but I'll say this. After I got into reloading but before I got involved in competitive target shooting, I used all sorts of brass. I used range pick up brass, once fired commercial brass, and what have you. I didn't keep track, but it seems as though it didn't last very long. The necks cracked, the bodies separated quite often, and the primer pockets seemed to get loose pretty quickly. I didn't think much about it since this mongrel brass was pretty cheap, so I just tossed any defective cases without a second thought.

Buying new Lapua brass was something I did immediately after getting involved in competition since that's what all the winners were using. I have stuck with Lapua brass which I take good care of. I keep it clean at the range and anneal every reloading cycle. It lasts for a long long time, ...........so long in fact that I don't keep track of how many reloads I make or how old the brass is. I know for sure that the brass I'm using right now on two of my F-class guns is several years old and I shoot several matches every month as well as some bench rest matches and quite a bit of testing.

So although the initial purchase price of Lapua is higher than most other brass, if it lasts much longer than the cheaper brass, then the cost per firing might actually be less. I can't prove that since I don't keep track of such things and it might just be my imagination. I can say with certainty that the cost of my Lapua brass on a per-shot basis is way lower than almost anything else associated with the kind of shooting I do. In short, I don't consider Lapua brass expensive.

.......... shouldn't that be a Finnish class? :) (Shame there's not a pot-stirring emoji.)
my wife is 100% Finn, I'm close to 50%....... suffice it to say we got blonde kids.....

These guys are Finns, this is perty close to the horse's mouth (altho if you lissen to Da Yoopers on Da YooTube you'll see Finns referred to as perty close to the other end...)

I love to hear a Brit pronounce Jaguar.

https://dictionary.cambridge.org/pronunciation/english/jaguar

The main difference from 'American' is that we have the syllable pronounced 'yoo' in the middle and equally stressed with the 'Jag' and 'yoo..are' on either side. Having said that, when talking cars, 90% of Brits other than Jaguar car dealers (or buyers) simply refer to them as a Jag or Jags. (As in '.... always thought the E-Type Jag the best looking car of all time', same as the accessory wot we stick on the end of a cleaning rod).

Alinwa, how most of us in the UK say 'Lapua' is close to the rendering in the You Tube clip, but as in 'Jaguar' has a much more pronounced 'yoo' syllable in the middle sounding not only different to a native speaker's usage, but longer. (Also, some English-English speakers cannot leave an open 'ahh' syllable at the end of a word but invariably add the consonant 'r', so 'Lapua' becomes pronounced same as 'Jaguar'. ie Lap-yoo-are each with equal stress.

But Laurie....can you say "WHAT A BONE HEAD MOVE...YOU DORK!!!!" like David Hobbs could say it:D. I miss him as a F1/GP2 announcer:(.

What are the odds that I was pronouncing Lapua correctly the whole time until some kid with a little more shooting experience than me corrected me. I keep telling myself to ignore advice that has been offered to me when I never solicited such advice. Wish I could remember to take my own advice.

Yes, I CAN say it ............. but I couldn't see me saying it. Not a phrase that comes naturally to me. (But I've used stronger expressions in matches against myself for bad wind calls, or horror of horrors, those now thankfully rare occasions when I've turned the windage knob the wrong way between shots.)

I've turned the windage knob the wrong way between shots.

A few weeks ago I turned both the wrong way while adjusting for proper POI.
I was alone thankfully...well I did look to see if there were any animals about.
