proper pronunciation of "lapua"

There’s more than one company name commonly mispronounced, though none of it bothers me one bit.

Crux- “crow”
Lapua- “Lapwaa”
Kahles- “Kuhluss”

If the person youre talking to knows what youre saying and doesnt laugh who cares? You go to a range and say youre shooting lapwa brass youll get laughed at more than if you said la poo wah so go right ahead.

Then there is that company that makes AR triggers. It starts with a G and nobody can spell it or say it correctly but him.

Fiocchi, the ammo maker, is routinely mispronounced. It's usually pronounced Fee-Oh-Chee by Americans, but it's actually Fee-Oh-Key with the accent on the middle syllable and a hard "key" sound, like a car key, at the end.

When you border the State of Oklahoma, we call it fee-okie.
Okie-Dokie!

I still have trouble saying Fa-No-Key-Oh.

I heard he is a wooden puppet on strings dressed in funny pants with a hat to match. Ha,,, or should I say Harrr Harrr.

Hey I learned something!! I've always pronounced that one "geese-e-luh" thinking it was Germanic but I just went to the site and he says "guys-lee"

My favorite though is Lejeune as in 'Camp Lejeune'

Every 'Mur'can jarhead in The Core knows how to s'lute a Sar'nt or a Kernel and they all either went to Pennleton or La'Joon......'cept IT AIN'T LA JOON!

I heard one of John A's descendants on the radio just tearin' it UP.... It's Luh-JURN!! This guy was adamant that the least we could do is pronounce the name right.....

Luh-Jurn, who knew?

Several years ago, LEATHERNECK magazing had an article attempting to get everyone use the "correct" pronunciation when referring to Camp Luh-Jurn. It had little effect on changing the way people talk.
Not everybody can roll out the Cajun dialect like Troy Landry can.

And exactly how is this going to contribute to shooting smaller groups:rolleyes:. i thought this was a place to learn how to shoot, not an English class.
hopefully by enabling one to "not" take himself or herself to seriously. not entertaining ones sense of humor in our chosen sport is a sure way to drive oneself "crazier" than oneself might already beo_O

Google translate has it more like Luh'-pwa, with the accent on the first syllable, but definitely two syllables. Most folks, including me, say it (apparently incorrectly) using three syllables.

That's what Lapua's then press relations lady told me many years back. (it is the name of the Finnish town that the former government arsenal is located in.)

At the end of the day though I don't suppose Lapua employees care that much what we call their brass and bullets as long as we keep buying them. I wouldn't in their shoes. :)
