Proper outside neck chamfering?

For outside neck chamfering (woops brainfreeze sorry... not turning but chamfeing) Lapua 6BR brass which specific tool/cutter and method would you recommend? I have seen all the different brands listed for sale but would like to save some time going thru them all if there are any standouts in the group.
For the inside neck I have been using a K&M and got great results chucking it into a drill on medium speeds and get very precise chamfers with it but need to learn the outside part.

Re: Proper outside neck turning?

I love my Sinclair 1000. http://www.sinclairintl.com/.aspx/pid=36849/Product/Sinclair_model_1000_Neck_Turning_Tool

The trick with any neck turning is to get your cutter speed right, feed rate down and most of all get the hand 'wobble' down to allow it to run true on the mandrel. I use case lube on the mandrel as well, it helps keep temp down, less friction and seems to minimize any chatter.

Doing all that gives me this:

Re: Proper outside neck turning?

The K&M tool works well and isn't too expensive either. It's what I use, and for the money it's a great tool.

The Sinclair NT-4000 is probably one of the better tools out, and is what I would buy if I was to upgrade, that or a Pumpkin.

Using a case holder in a drill is probably the best way to turn cases as well, as the faster cutting speed will result in smoother necks, much better than turning the case by hand.

The only superior method I know of is to use a lathe, but that's a bit more involved and requires a substantial investment, and really isn't practical for most.

IF your asking about chamfering ( a symmetrical sloping surface at an edge or corner) instead of neck turning as I assume you are, K&M has a dandy tool with 3 spring steel legs that control the depth for the inside chamfer.
OR.. Any of the fish tail tools like RCBS will do the outside chamfer just fine along with the inside.
I use both the K&M and a RCBS tool for the outside chamfer and easy entry for the VLD's....

All you really do when you outside chamfer is remove any burrs from trimming. I use a Lee tool and it works fine and is dirt cheap. For inside chamfering, I use a Sinclair VLD tool.

Most any of the outside chamfering tools will do a plenty good job, so it's not something to really sweat over. I would just pick up a Lee tool, as they are only a few dollars. Mine cuts very smooth.

buy a rcbs, forester, hornady and get the drill adaptor from sinclairs. You hold the case in your hand and chuck the tool in the tool holder. Then use your favorite drill and you can do hundreds in mere minutes.

In Two Deep,
The best thing I have come up with to chamfer the case neck outside is a little cone shaped deburring cutter from NOGA Deburring System. I got just the 4 - 18 mm Cone Cutter #EX18 from Production Tool Supply. Unscrewed it from the little shaft it came on and adapted to my trimming station replacing one I made from a little knife sharpening tool. The cone cutter works great, cuts fast and clean. Just a very light touch is required to remove any burrs.

in2deep,
If it is chamfering you want to do jon and Kenny are right any of those brands mentioned will do the job nicely :)
If you are talking neck turning I have several but like the nt-4000 from sinclair best.

I use a Giraud trimmer, trims chamfers in/out a case every 5 seconds.
I have heard the Girauds are nice, any complaints on yours? I also hear once you finnaly get them set up the Gracey's is really nice also, and works similar to the Giraud.

My only complaint is I didn't get it sooner, I don't shoot BR yet, right now I'm having alot of fun in Practical/Tactical matches, I leave alot of brass on the ground, and I needed something to speed up my reloading process.
