Thank you

Re: Proper firing pin protrusion for Anschutz action 1813

I had a link saved on an article by Bill Calfee, which was posted on the snipers paradise site. However it is now a 404. Google can't seem to find it either.

I modified my Savage rimfire firing pin based on this article. It is a plate style like on the Anschutz 54 action rimfires. His basic premise is that if you let a flat plate hit the rim it does two things wrong.

First it forces the cartridge sideways in the chamber away from the hit, presumably affecting the accuracy.

Second a lot of energy goes into deforming brass that does not have any priming compound in the area.

His solution was to cut a taper in the firing plate so the part that is closest to the center of the case goes the deepest (without cutting through the case), and ideally there is virtually no deformation of the very outer rim.

I can't say it cut my group sizes in half, but I do believe it has cut my failure to fires to an insignificant number even with cheap ammo.

I believe Bill Calfee may hang out at Benchrest Central, so you could try there. I recall having some discussion with him on barrel vibration and tuning.
