Proof testing

Has anyone ever been involved in proof testing to the point of destruction?
Curious to know what pressure it would take to make brass flow. As in flow .080" or so into the ejector hole.

You wouldnt be able to see .080 into the ejector hole- you couldnt open the bolt. It would blow the rest way before that i would think

Not all together true. I witnessed it. Small radial split in the brass. The head extruded some into the grooves of the bolt and flowed the .080" into the ejector.
The bolt was opened with light tapping with a block of wood.
Remington action, 6.5x47, RL15. Don't know the bullet weight. I'm guessing 140g.

When I purchased Wichita Arms, there was one of their magnum actions they had sent to White Laboratories for a test to destruction. They fired 10 rounds of 300 Win mag in higher levels of pressure. First load was just under 70,000 psi and the last was almost 130,000. The last load caused the barrel to split in the chamber. The action was intact and the comments noted that the bolt opened as normal. There was 0.001 increase in length of the bolt. Says a lot about the strength of a properly designed action.
