Prone f t/r

Due to physical limitations I'm giving up position shooting. I'm going to give f t/r a try. I'm building a prone rifle with tuned 700, 31 inch Kreiger. Most of you have more shooting exp.& knowledge than I. I need some mentoring. What stock do I need for rear bag & dipod shooting. There are a lot of manes and styles advertised. I'm a little confused.

Thanks

Precision rifle and tool , and masterclass both offer top of the line stocks specifically tailored to FT/R. These have a long forend similar to benchrest stocks but not as wide due to bipod instead of front rest. Rear has a bottom similar to benchrest but some have a slight drop..

Not sure if Master Class has their FT/R on their websight.

Kelblys will be offering the new GSR that is flat out awesome looking.

Hitman,
You are so right about what is and is not available for F/TR. One of the things you will need to address is your elevation changes while shooting a string. The most common way to do this is with a stock with some amount of drop to the bottom of the stock. This way you can move the rifle front and back thus raising or lowering the elevation. There are several good stocks that have this feature. The ones mentioned by "broncman" is a good of a place to start as any.

However, I shoot F-Open and use a "Viper" rest that does have the elevation on it just like my Benchrest rest ( also a Viper). I am used to making my changes that way. You however shooting F/TR will not have that rest in front of you but a Bipod. I recently had the chance to shoot a F/TR rig that had a elevation adjustable "Mariner Wheel". For me this was the only way to go, partly because I am used to doing things that way, but it also just felt right.

I believe this Bipod is called a "Centershot" and here is a link to there web-site http://censhot.com/
My thinking is this if you were to use this type bipod you then could use any prone stock or Long Range Benchrest stock you wanted to. Stocks like the Shehane MBR Tracker and there are many others. These stocks "For ME" are much more user friendly than stocks with drop.

I was born and raised not to far from you in Titus County Texas, I believe you are in Franklin County there in Mt. Vernon. Moved away at a young age but always called it home.

What was you "position' rifle?
F class started with a bi-pod added to a Palma rifle.
You may want to do that and attend some matches. Could save you a lot on money in the long run.

Broncman, hombre, kings x thanks for taking time to share. You all gave me good info. Will start my search tomorrow.

Hitman, I have been shooting two rifles with a straight heel and a harris bipod. My current build is using a centershot bipod and a heel with a very slight angle.

I used to pinch the rear bag for slight elevation but believe this is not consistent. Using the adjustment on the bipod causes you to break position for each adjustment.

That is why my new stock has a slight drop. Slight elevation changes can be made by sliding slightly forward or back and the rear of the rifle stays firmly in the bag.

Last years FT/R champ, James Croft, used a PR&T FT/R stock.
