Project: Blue Rifle

Stock is on its way across the country to BC'z. Asked him to make it sparkly and get the color sorta close.

There's a whole box of plaques and old magazines. This stuff was in one of his rifle cases... trying to figure out the significance of these two magazines.

I bet there's a couple of you listed in there.

That makes me feel old. I shot with just about everyone on that page. I shot Bob Sherer's barrels for several years. Only one person is still active.

This one is my favorite, because that's my home range, and where I met all of the guys and gals that got me into F-Class.
I don’t believe that the Borden range that is your home range is where this plaque came from. It is from the Wood Township Conservation Club range which is about a mile away from the Southern Indiana range you are referring to. I have been a member for many years.

Is that conservation club still there/active?

You have so great back ground and a good dad. I had a red gun and a blue0 gun for years. I would joke I needed a white gun. I was at Kelblys one day and spotted a white gun in PPC. Great idea you have for your dad's rifle and yes you should try it out. Your a good son.

Time for something a little different.

My dad got me interested in rifles when when I was super young. Shooting BR is what he did before I was born (Late 70's). He stopped competing when I was "on the way". I was always excited when he'd pull out his BR guns to clean and give a fresh coat of oil. There was always a new story about Fred Sinclair, one or two of his buddies, or a record, trophy, plaque he won.

I've got targets, plaques, magazine articles of groups and aggs as low as .08.

The sappy part: 4 years ago he was diagnosed with brain cancer. It hit him very quickly, dementia took over him. I asked him one day if I could take the rifles home with me to take care of them. He was a foggy mess but was happy to get them out and help put them in my truck, but he had a moment of clarity and said "I'm giving these to you, but if I ever want them back, I want them back"

He always wanted to retire, build cabinets and shoot benchrest. He knew he'd never see those guns again. He passed a year later.

Sappy part over.

This stock is off to BC'z . In the mean time I plan on polishing the shit out of the barrel and action. Then gluing it back together and putting it into a shadow box on a wall in the shop or reloading room.

That sticker is older than I am. Every piece of equipment he had, had a Mickey Mouse sticker on it. He was the mickey mouse kid.

This is the "blue rifle" - There's also a "red rifle" (hunter class, 30x40 sinclair (effectively 308 AI) - will leave a bruise on your shoulder! - but that's another thread for another time.)
Bravo, good story.

HAHA I'm afraid to handle it. This is why I don't do "pretty" stocks :)
Brett’s clear coat is very durable. I’ve inadvertently smacked mine a few times and it’s still hanging tough.
