Products to get smooth action

Back many years ago my whole family was really into archery. Someone at the local archery shop his bow through the crono and recorded the speed and disassembled the bow took the axels and bushings and simmered them in slick 50 for most of the afternoon and claimed a speed increase. Tried it on other bows and all had the same result. I think that in addition to all the methods mentioned here to smooth out rough machining, if all the internal parts as well as the bolt it self were treated in this way it would smooth every thing out and imbed the slick 50 in to the metal. A friend that is a pilot added slick 50 to a turbine crop duster (approved by the FAA) and had the idle speed go up 50 rpm.

The 700 should be smooth enough if you eliminate contact with the follower. Some of the old stamped 700 followers are terrible.
The same bolt used in a 40X- BR is really smooth because there is no follower pressure dragging on the bottom of the bolt.

Isn’t there more to the quality of an action than bolt closure? Seems to me me the consistency of the ignition trumps bolt closure.

The post was products to get a smooth action and 1bad284 said to bite the bullet and get a Borden action. I've owned 4 Rimrocks and they are not as smooth as any of my Farleys. Of the 4 that I have owned, 3 were smithed by Borden and we all know how good he is with ignition/trigger timing, and all 3 of my Farley's have had Dwight Scott work on the ignition/trigger timing and you can't get better than Dwight when it comes to that, so the bottom line is the Farley's are smoother than any of my Bat's, Rimrocks, Panda or Marsh actions.

A friend of mine recently got a new Borden action. He had an older one too. The newer one was quite a bit smoother than the old one. I was at a match last fall and a fella I shot with showed me his newer Borden and it was as smooth as my friends new one. I'm not sure what he changed, but whatever he's done has made for a much smoother cycling action. And he will admit he's changed things. Jim Borden had the friend with the older style send it back in to have him work on it some. Its a bit smoother now, but not like his new one.

I'm not sure how old your Bordens are, but he's got them pretty smooth these days.

Edit: also, I've never seen or cycled a farley. And I fixed Jim's name

Measure the firing pin fall on the Farley and compare it to the Borden. Its easy to make then open and close good if you dont mind having short pin fall. And in the short range world with softer primers it may not cause any issues.
I know the early Farley's were notorious for having about .150. Mine are all at .230 from what I remember.
