Process for forming ppc from 7.62x39 cases

I post his also in the PPC forum- mea culpa mea culper If I have broken a no double post taboo but I really need some help with this as my 6 PPC is my only funtioning/completed rifle ATM and it's no good without brass.

HI
I want to get the process of forming ppc cases from 7.62x39 boxer primed brass.
I have googled, yahoo'ed, meta searched- still cannot find a detailed process of converting 7.62x39 to PPC- the tools required and the steps to take.

Unless someone tells me a different and better way I plan to run the brass through an intermediate necking down stage,7mm or 6.5mm), turn the excess neck thickness off, anneal the necks, size to approx 272-274 thou in a Redding bushing dies and then turn to .268,loaded) for my 272 chamber. Load with 70 TNT's seated long and starting loads of Varget or Benchmark and fire form while I hunt.

Can you run into problems if you put to little heat into the necks when attempting to anneal the brass??

I'm looking to build a gas torch and conveyor to be able to do bulk brass conversion from 7.62x39 to 6 PPC and want to anneal the necks after the first pass through the neck sizing die. I am trying to calculate how quickly to set the conveyor so the cases are exposed to the flame for the correct amount of time.

The cases will then drop about 2 feet to a bucket of chilled or iced water. Can the water be to cold for quenching and cause shock embitterment from the rapid cooling??

I know it would be easier to just buy 6PPC USA Sako cases loads and use but at $160+ per 100 -don’t have the money. $20 per 100 for 7.62x39 and some, many) hours of my time I can get what I need.
Hours I got. $$ I don't.

Thanks
Heaps

There is a die set to set shoulder back and reduce neck sizing. I have to look in my VHA mags to find the article. I would think that you are way ahead to buy the 220 Russian Lapua brass and form it. The forming steps you have to go through to get PPC brass from the 762 brass and the quality of 762 brass will leave you wanting better.

We suggest you do what everyone else does and buy Lapua 220 Russian brass,Brunos has the best price), then just neck it up and shoot it. Be sure to lube the expander mandrel AND the inside of the neck as you go up from .223 to .243. It doesn't hurt to anneal after expansion, and run the cases through a 6PPC FL sizer after expansion. This will sharpen the neck shoulder junction. When you anneal use a temp-stick so you don't overheat the neck.

Another way to form brass easily from .220 Russian, and you gave good advice about using Lapua brasss) is to fill a primed case with Bullseye,DO NOT USE BULLETS!!!!!), seal the case mouth with wax or modeling clay and fire. That's how I make my PPC cases for benchrest shooting.
