If you are already ordering a custom reamer, why not get it with the proper freebore? That's the reason I showed how to make a dummy round so that you can send one to the reamer maker and get precisely what you need.

I agree it sounds like OP is getting one of Kiffs in stock reamers and the smith wants to tweak the chamber a little. But at this stage of this thread I'm just guessing.

No, Kiff does not have any in stock. I just know I need a 338 neck which will give me .004 neck clearance. I need to make up some dummy rounds like Erik showed and send it to Kiff or call him and he could probably tell me what free bore I would need for backing the sierra 175 matchking bthp .020 off the lands.

dave , you say you are having a reamer ground , to give you 4 thou good !!!!.
but you started this by asking about sizing new lapau brass ???? .
why , new lapau brass is usualy 4 thou under sammi spec ? is this reamer going to be used to chamber a new barrel or are you going to top and tail the old barrel and use the old brass .
dave go back and sit down with the the guy who's doing the work and ask him for his opionion and advice .

Haven't talked to my Gunsmith but Kiff decided the 308 Bisley reamer would be the best one to go with.
