I have a problem tracking in the rear rest,I seem to have to adjust alot between shots.Im using a 18lb 308 on an HS presicion HTR stock,Cadwell BR front rest with a protector rear rest.Any Ideas.

Exactly which rear bag do you have? IMO your stock needs to sit down on the upper surface of the main bag and not be resting on the ears. The ears should just contact the sides of the buttstock. I also like my main bag very tightly packed.

I am having problems with my rear bag constantly moving also. Its a pain in the a__. I am shooting horizonal, which is probably my lack of wind reading skills. I pack the gun down then slide it back and forth till it holds pretty close. I would like the proper regiment for setting up the rear bag to have my rifle track properly,,of which no one has shown me exactly what I should see when it is right}. Does any one have the answer to this?

After sliding the rifle forward push down on the top of the comb while looking through the scope. If the crosshairs shift then you still have work to do with the rear bag set up. My 'coffin butt' stocks sit down in the bag and have little to no POA shift when pressing down on the comb. My round profile stocks always seem to have some POA shift when pressing the comb immediately after sliding back into battery.
Yesterday I moved the forend stop rearward on my rests. I think as a newbie it is natural to just place the stop all the way forward which takes weight off the rear bag.
I think today I will set up my rifles on my rests with an accurate scale under the toe of the stock and see how much weight [ in lbs and percent of total ] is on the rear bag with the forend stop at various positions in it's adjustment range.
I think this may be kinda like setting up the suspension on a round track car where you want a certain percent of rear weight and a certain percent left side weight except we only have to deal with front to rear percentage.

I have the yellow and black protektor with the litte one inch high ears that are about an inch and a half long.it moves up and down on the target.

Just a thought here... are you sure it is your rear rest moving and not your front? One of our shooters had a lot of trouble getting his caldwell rest to be stable. He finally got it to sit still, but it took a lot of modification to do it. As I recall there was movement in the windage top which he replaced, but then found there was also movement in the legs. No matter how much he tightened the nuts there was still movement. He ended up through bolting it to another plate which solved the problem.
If you are sure it is the rear bag moving one thing you can try is to put some of the non skid material under it. It is used for things like shelves in RVs and boats etc where you don't want things sliding around. A piece of that under the bag works pretty well.

Im pretty sure its the rear bag I guess I will have to check,may take a video of it tracking and slow it down a bit.Check tomarrow and I should have a picture of my rifle in the set up I use.

The easy thing to do would be to get everything set up with rifle and rest, nice and straight with the points set in the concrete. Then sit down and look through the scope as you reach up and push and pull on various parts of the rest. Your cross hair movement on target should give you a good indication if something is not right. You can move your rifle forward and back abruptly also while watching. Also notice if you are getting up against the rear bag when shooting. That is easy to do because it is close to the edge of the bench.
Here are pics of my various bags and a coffin butt stock. The first pic has the same bag you have. The fit is no good. The other 2 bags have 2 rows of stitching between the ears and the fit is very good. I use the 2nd bag with my round profile stocks and knead the ears to allow the toe to sit down onto the main bag like the rifle in the pic. I still need to check it before each shot to make sure it hasn't ridden up on the ears. It's easy to forget this with possible thrown shots as a result.
NOTE !!! I do not shoot the rifle with it slid forward on the bag as shown in the pics. These are just to show the fit of the stock.

Everytime you fire the rifle the sand in the ears gets displaced. Then when you slide the rifle forward and work the bolt, etc the sand moves around some more. Then on the next shot it displaces again. The problem is that it is not consistent shot to shot. If you can remember to press down on the comb of the stock before each shot it may help your groups.

Looks like the sling swivel studs are still in the stock. Remove those for bag shooting or set the rifle up as to have the rear stud out of the bag to the rear. Also, with a heavier recoiling rifle like the .308, the bottom of the grip can/will hit the rear bag under recoil if the rear bag is too close to the grip. My .308 is in a McMillan A2 Tactical Stock and the rear stud will not come out. The bottom of the grip hits the bag every time under recoil if I shoot from the bench. I just have to adjust the bag and drive the rifle more so than I do the 6BR.
My sling studs are gone,Ill give it a try next time out.Thank you for the help.
