SELLING Probably The Most Customized, Custom Savage 257 A.I. / Laminated Walnut to Date?

This is far more than a rebarreled Savage on a Laminated stock! This is a Very unique Build, over a year into this and every part of the action, Bolt Stock were addressed, and more custom work than I can list, but here goes. This rifle is very special and I never intended to sell it,,, But at this age, life deals you cards that you can't plan on. So I am offering the most customized Savage Axis ever built!

I'll start with shortening the face of the action to remove the slot for the slip in recoil lug the factory uses, and truing the action and threads, results stiffer and can accommodate a pinned HD recoil lug. This is the only action Savage makes without the full top of the action open, it actually has the opposite side of the port shielded in its casting, the rest are open on the opposite side of the port. Finally it has a single shot follower installed.

Then the bolt, the bolt head was bushed for the reduced diameter and tighter fit firing pin, with the pin dia. reduced and then the firing spring reset and protrusion reset, and finally timed to the new action and Special trigger.

The special trigger is exactly that! There are no aftermarket triggers for an Axis action. But Fred at Sharp Shooter Supply, the original supplier of custom triggers for the 110, 112, and 12 series actions, designed a prototype for the Axis. Never put into production because of cost, but I was willing to pop for this extremely adjustable target trigger, and pitched what Savage calls there Axis II trigger. This is a very nice trigger, and better than anything currently available for any savage action. I have it set for Varmint use right now at around 6oz. But the new owner can change that to their preference. Asi said this trigger and bolt are timed including extraction caming.

Then I needed a stock. So I turned to Fred at SSS and he obliged with a totally one of a kind Walnut Laminate. This stock was well thought out, I wanted as light of stock as I could get in his own Pro Varmint design, but I wanted it stiffer than the stocks available, closer to the Carbon fiber stocks used for BR applications. This called for buying 2 blanks, to make one stock, as he lost as much material in saw dust as he got from each lamination after ripping, barrel sanding, and finish planing. Not to mention the sawing every other lamination into pieces to be rotated 90 degrees and glued together to reach the same length as the laminations beside it. But what this allowed was for every other lamination to run its grain opposite of the lamination beside it. Kinda anal, Ya, but it created a stock that is more rigid close to the custom carbon fiber stocks, and actually quite Eye appealing! I called it Parquet!! We had no idea if I would have to paint it, or if it would look good enough to finish naturally, my call was DON'T HIDE IT!

My last concern was Barrel. I have had excellent luck with Brux so Called Chuck and ordered a 257 blank 28" in a heavy Varmint contour. Then I contacted Ray at Manson Reamers and ordered a 257 A.I. with a no turn neck. I had it cut 20 26" finished with 6 flutes. stiffer and lighter again was the goal.

My last component was the scope and rings. After a lot of debate, and I have Zeiss, Sightron, March, NF, Leica, and as good as they are I chose the new Precision Long Range from Sightron. It has absolutely great glass, and great adjustments. But so do the others, what sold me was the retical, as well as the power range. 8-32x56mm, that is about all the power I can handle on a rifle in the field with whatever rest is available, and with 8 power for wider view and most closer shots inside 200 yards for finding my target quickly. Then the clean MOA-2 reticle is illuminated with one of the finest illumination systems available on any hunting scope for those predawn and sunset shots against dark backgrounds! I mounted it on a Picatinny 20 MOA rail, with Seeking HD 30mm rings, and added a Vortex scope level for longer shots in uneven terrain.

Kinda anal maybe but I wanted this to be as good as it could get, and I think I nailed it. The action Axis is actually stiffer than the 110 112 or 12 action with its single port design. I also never installed any sling studs or anything else to this stock, I wanted it clean. Buyer can do as they wish, but that's their option.

I will sell it with the Forrester FL Die set, I'm asking $3200.00 for everything. It has less than 150 rounds through. The scope is selling for over $1500.00 anywhere new, The HD seeking rings, and Vortex scope level add nearly another $200.00 if you buy them today. The stock, well Fred won't make another, he said their is just to much time and work involved to build it right. Ripping sawing gluing ever other Lamination, barrel sanding both sides, finish planning both sides, drying in the dring room then guing the laminations claming and drying again. Trust me it wasn't cheap, but it is ONE OF!

Like I said I don't want to sell it, but life doesn't always give us options. $3200.00 is what I'm selling everything you see for, and I'm covering the shipping, in a hard case broke down scope rings and level will ship separately, local FtoF. full port side rifle.JPGport side rifle.JPGIMG_0012.JPGIMG_0015.JPGscope box 8-32x56PLR.JPGlrg port side scoped action.JPG
