Primers?

Hi all what would be the difference in using magnum primers in my 308 loads as compared to standard primers?
What do you all use in your 308 loads? is there any advantage in the magnum primers to warrant the extra cost?

Use what ever you have or can find. Start low and work up.

Hi I will be working up from min to max as I did with my 223, just wanted to know if there was any advantage with using the magnum primers compared to standard primers?

I've worn out several barrels shooting reloads using standard rifle primers in my 308s. Only place where a mag primer might matter is with a non-extruded powder like H414. I've never used them in either High Power or hunting.


There is a lot of be said for going with what you can manage to find these days however. If I could only find magnums, then that's what I'd be using.

I agree with the sentiment you dance with girl you brung to the party. I just got my 5,000 WLR order from Powder Valley. Price was ok as well at 28 per 1000. So will obviously be using those for a bit.
