Hi all, I'm about to recieve my new 6MM winter project gun.When I started the project, I could go to the store and get any of the reloading components I needed. Now, I can't get primers. I'm sure some of you have a good stash, some mabe not, my question is where to get Primers?? In a couple weeks, I will have a gun, I have some powder, bullets, but with out primers this will just be 'stuff' Bend, Oregon

I am sorry to be the bad news guy, but you wont be able to find any primers at a regular price. I am in the same boat as you. I have not been able to find any primers for 2 months now.
I am a new BR shooter wanting to shoot matches. But cant because of the primer issue. The people that saw this coming started stocking up on primers a long time ago so they could shoot there matches. New BR shooters are out of luck.
You can get them on Gun Broker.com if you have deep pockets. But I wont contribute to the primer horders selling them for high profits, when those same people dont even own a rifle.

Check craigslist. There are some people in the Portland, Salem area selling primers. Last I checked they wanted 55.00 per thousand.

Nope.. check there also. I think what I am going to do is just take the BR stock off, and put a hunting varmit stock on, and use the rifle for deer hunting and varmit hunting. And save the 100 primers that I have left for hunting. No sence wasting all my time and effort trying to find primers, life is to short.
All I know is clubs, are going to loose alot of shooters this year because of the primer issue.

I have been reading the 6MMBR site all winter, learning some things that make sense when you think of how you hold your gun while you try for that ragged hole. It seems that as big of a community the bench rest shooters are, some one should have the 'right' answer as to why we can't get primers.?? I suppose if you are a national champion your sponsor will keep you in components, then you don't 'see' the lack of components for the others..?? Why is this not posted?? Every where I call all over the US asking for primers, I get the 'deer in the headlights' answer from who I talk to. I won't support the 500% increase in cost the people are selling them on the gun auction site..

During the first Iraq war the same thing happened - no primers. But life went on and eventually recovered. Primers are a complicated issue of U.S. military stockpiling, the U.S. military relying on civilian ammo contractors instead of running their own arsenals, the current fetish of AR15/AR18 hicap mags, a bubble in F Class/ benchrest participation, generally increased participation in precision shooting due to the release of excellent rifles by the industry and civilian panic and hoarding.
Up here in Canada, one of the local distributers named Lawry of clay target fame ordered more than the usual number of Federal rifle, pistol primers in the late Winter. While the regular girl behind the retail counter was on a few days holiday, someone came in and bought the whole skid of primers, a year`s supply. We are all waiting for this individual to surface and try to skin us all. The other local supplier, Hummason of shot tower fame, was cleaned out of a year`s supply of Winchester rifle/pistol primers in two weeks. He had retailers from Western Canada phoning him because Federal/Winchester/CCI could not deliver. Both suppliers have had similar experiences with rifle/pistol powders. They both thought they had ordered way enough Win/Alliant/Hodgon/IMR powders for the year only to be bought out by the end of April. Both say they have re-orders of primers/powders coming in sounding like early summer but they can`t guarentee anything.
The winners at the Provincials and Nationals in TR and F Class up here on the Canadian Army ranges this year may be those few who saw everything coming and have enough primers, powder and bullets to compete.

Yep, The panic and hording started once the president was elected. Well actually before that. So yes everyone is effected by this. But there are still people with deep pockets buying them all up, to make huge profits. I hope they get stuck with all the primers and have to eat them, because they cant sell them at there high prices anymore.
If the Stores selling the primers would only sell 2000 primers per customer and take there names down, and tell the customer that he cannot buy anymore for 3 months, that would help.

I agree with 'Gunamonth' on rationing not being effective. I went to Buffalo Gun Center in late March and they had a sign up '1000 primers per customer per day'. I went there today and they had no small rifle/pistol primers and very few large rifle/pistol primers. They were also out of stock on many powders.
I agree with you, rationing will not work. I was just venting and blowing off some steam.

First all, I hate that your having problems getting into the sport due to the primer issue. Right now, its a supply and demand issue. No supplies, driven by a huge demand equal high prices. I guess I'm a hoarder..I don't consider myself a bad guy by 'hoarding'..I consider that being prepared..I saw the writing on the wall with the election of Obama, and immediately stocked up on primers, powders,and cases...I still remember the 'Clinton' years and the assualt weapon ban, and the results of it, so I feel lucky to have been better prepared this time.. I travel alot with what I do for a living..I was in Grander Mountain in Salibury, Maryland a couple of weeks ago, and they had primers..they were $50 per thousand, but they had them...several places I've been too have had primers.
You'll find them at your local, smaller shops, but you can forget about online or at the big retailers like Midway, Shooters, etc...
I know the prices are a little high, but get out and look a little..you'll find them...the small groups that you'll shoot will make you forget about the higher than average prices..

From my understanding of what I've read, CCI has laid-off workers while we lust for primer availablity. What's the real story? Why can't MAGTECH of Brazil supply us with lots of primers? Will primer absence halt all reloading efforts? I smell vicious conspiracy! I'm about OUT of primers, so I'm not happy. Even at $40 a thousand, where are those precious little poppers! cliffy

The conspiracy was created among ourselves. We have created this shortage of primers and other shooting supplies. We have nobody but ourselves to blame by crying that the bogeyman is out to get us.cliffy said:

Steve...I strongly disagree with you on this one...'we' did not create this shortage....The REAL fear that the current adminstration has instilled is what created this shortage. It has led to record gun, ammo, and component sales...think about it..there really weren't any shortages until our current president was elected...alot of people fear what is coming, and with very good reason...

If you think about it, 780 Billion bucks could buy LOTS of primers. Does anybody know someone w/ 5 pallets of `em...How many guy`s got lots of ammo for the new AR-15 they just bought?
eulrich1, I might be able to help you out.I'm 2 hours away from you, Burns. You need to help me out also. I need some 8mm bullets, prefer nosler 200 accubonds, or speer or hornady in 180 to 200 grains. I know I could give you 500 primers for sure, they are cci 200's but they are old. I'm still trying to use em up. I am heading that way around the 20'th of this month. I was there yesterday but did not see your thread til today. Let me know alright.
Jim, I know that Obama has a very anti-gun record, but nothing I have read indicates that he would outlaw or restrict handloading components. I can understand the run on guns but not primers.patchhound said:
