Primers for 6x47

im just getting some loads prepped for my rebarreled stolle in 6x47 got load data powder and bullets of choice but keep getting 2 fields of thought on primers,some are saying small magnum,others use run of the mill.
if magnum primers are needed is this because of the small flash hole and a fair column of powder?
your views .

Don't know about "If They are needed". I shot CCI 450's in my 6.5X47 for the simple reason they shoot best. I personally never had any luck at all trying to tell the rifle what it was going to get, it will tell you which it prefers. You just need to listen.

I have yet to find a need to use anything but 450's in my 6 and 6.5x47's. When I first started shooting the 47's I tried every small primer I could get my hands on and the 450's came out on top with my rifles. I did not however try any br4's, but the 450's did so well I didnt see a need for it(plus they cost a lot more )

I was told to try rem 7.5 br primers because they have the hottest flame temperature.
They work so I have not tried any other. I use them in both my 6.5 and 6mm x47

I own a 6 and a 6.5X47, I started right off the bat with 450's and never looked back. Did not see a need to try any other primer. Start with the 450's and go from there.

I use 7-1/2s in my 6x47s, and in everything except RL17 loads in the 6.5x47s - I found that 450s give better results with RL17 in heavy bullet loads for the 6.5s.

The exception to the above is that I use Wolf SRMs with every load I shoot in an AR10 I built in 6.5x47 - this particular DPMS bolt has a pretty sloppy firing pin/FP hole fit, and will pierce 7-1/2 primers with any but light loads. It blanks 450s with the same loads that pierce 7-1/2s, and the Wolf SRM is the only primer I've found that'll stand up to loads that come close to what I use in my bolt rifles. Actually, that turned out not to be a bad thing, as accuracy with the Wolf primers is excellent.

I use the Wolf SR Magnum (not a magnum charge, just a thicker cup), BRs, or White box CCI 5.56 nato depending on the powder and bullet. Each can have there advantages. Don't fall into the one size fits all crowd.

Another example is I don't use magnum primers 300 win mag, the CCI white box 7.62mm primers with H1000 are awesome. Switching to H4831SC needed different primer to get the consistency back.

I have some good loads going on at the minute using n160 -107 sierras and br4 primers all wrapped up im lapua brass just testing at 200yds and its looking good,i thought just for the hell of it to try magnum primers-cci 450 and the groups opened up from .600 x5 shots to 1.3-5" with the cci magnums cant get my head round this one,these were shot without a chrony will try same loads at the week end and see what the chrony tells me.

Rem 71/2 deserve a try. I have a very descriptive picture of some primer testing with H4350 and various primers.

I currently use WSR in my 6x47L and it shoots great I havent tried the other primers because of how the WSR's shot. But its good to know that others are having great results with other primers. Just in case I cant get any WSR for some reason.

Wolf small Magnum; supposedly have a thicker cup. Never tried anything else, just shoots too good to mess with it.

Rem 7 1/2 is a mag primer and will help ignite slower burning powders. CCI BR-4 also has a little hotter flame and the CCI 450 is the hottest flame of them all. All three of the above primers have thick cups. Wolf SRM I have not worked with.

You will see a preference if you are trying to get groups in the 0's and low1's, so don't get stuck in a rut. Well put together rifles shoot increadable, so don't sell yourself short. A Varget may like a hotter primer because of the coating but only testing a particular lot of primers will tell you what is best.

If you can load at the range, it is best to test the 4 hottest Primers with thick cups, you may be SHOCKED at how one primer will react on one load better than another, then if you go to a different powder or bullet, another primer may be much better.

I have my own rifle range, shoot and load from indoors with heat and AC. Never assume that anyting works best all the time. There is on old saying I read somewhere a long time ago, "first comes pride, then the fall".

ment to say 6x47L . a 6x47 is a 222Rem Mag opened to 6mm it uses small rifle primers
