primer shortage

"Enhanced" regulations, along with those who are shipping items that are regulated as Hazardous Materials without being Haz-Mat certified are the culprits responsible for the more than double increase in Haz-Mat charges, now being levied, by the commercial shippers. Please take time to thank them both! Any mishap will just be more fuel for those who seek to ban or add more regulation to firearms, ammo and reloading components. You think primers, powder, bullets and brass are hard to get now???????????

ASSRCO is on strike at 5 copper mines in the USA. . A major producer of copper. A subsidiary of a multi-billion-dollar Mexico City based mining conglomerate, Grupo Mexico.

No copper = no primers, no bullets, no brass.

l picked up some Fiocche recently. lt was foreign or NONE. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet.

Like Daddy used to say, ''A POOR ride beats a proud walk any day''

lf the copper miners strike is affecting National Security lt could be over with the stroke of a pen from Our President

There seem to be a decent amount of primers around N GA. Gun shops have some and you can sometimes get them at BPS, Dunham’s, or Academy.

Get 5000 of your favoritist two sizes, put em away and forget about em till Hillary is elected. That will be the next crunch..
For those who have watched her record in California, Kamala Harris will be far worse for guns than Hillary.

o_O A 7 year old thread? Lol, if I ever ran out of primers I would be working on brass, not digging up old bones. ;)

I'm so ticked bout the primmer shortage I'm bout to grab 22 inch 308 barrel just to hold me over. Got a bunch of large rifle primers and 308 components. This is killing me.

Primer shortage will not kill you - stress can. Take a deep breath. Keep looking, once the panic eases primers will become available. Saw it with toilet paper - now it's available everywhere here.

Not meant to be critical - it is frustrating because we're not use to it - shortages everywhere here in the food stores, gun shops, etc. Adapt and over come. Use your 308 in the interim - it's a great cartridge - I load mine down with 4895 and 125 grain bullets so it's fun to shoot. Good reason to have alternative calibers.

Good point - the intermediate boom bust cycles during this period should serve as an object lesson for us all. Elections, mass shootings, and pandemics (or other stuff) can cause ammo and component shortages. The latter classes of events aren't very predictable, so during normal times, stock up on at least a sane amount of components. Yeah, I know this doesn't help anyone right now, but remember this when the supply chain normalizes.

Whats that saying about history repeating itself?

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. This famous statement has produced many paraphrases and variants: Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Those who do not remember their past are condemned to repeat their mistakes.
:D

Between 2013 and now 2020 we had plenty of time to stock up on primers. Same with 22 lr ammo.

There were even rebates on both.

A store called Black Sheep in cord alene ID is full of primers in every size, srp, lrp, lrmp, srmp, sp, smp, lpm, (mostly cci/federal gold, cci white box sr & lr) Priced at $34 to $39 per 1k.
Shelves packed with 1lb and 8lb powders, just about all brands...cept varget. A place had cci 400 at $24 (limited to 1k per person)
Im up here visiting and all other stores are stripped of primers, bullets & ammo that everyone is hoarding in 380, 9mm, 45acp .223, .308 bulk etc
Cabelas in Post Falls and Billings is a laughing stock of a store on top of that.

I've posted this before

You can not ship primers/powder (haz mat) unless

You have a certified haz mat shipping account with Fed Ex or UPS

You can't legally pack a USPS flat rate box with primers/powder & mail 'em

You could get into deep do do if something where to happen in transit

Not worth it....

I reside in California but travel to Coeur D'Alene periodically for business. The first time I went into Black Sheep, I took videos of the reloading isles and the long gun counter so all my buddies could OOOHHH AND AAAHHH. That store is freaking awesome!
