Primer seating depth

Wondering what the consensus is on primer seating depth? Looks like most use a hand held tool. Don't these seat to the bottom of the primer pocket. I have been using my Forster press. It seats primers .005" below the surface only, not to the bottom of the pocket.

From all that I have read and heard BR shooters say, the primer needs to just bottom out with slight pressure applied to the anvil. Maybe several opinions will be expressed in a day or so. Hope this helps. Bill

Measure the heights of the primers you use, if most measure .127",if you are using large rifle primers) for instance, segregate them. Buy or set a primer pocket cutter from K&M, Sinclair or other to cut the pocket .130"; then set your Co Ax primer seater to seat them .005" below the head of case and you"ll have a crush of .002" and you are in business. If the majority of primers come out a different heighth adjust accordingly, if small rifle primers are used adjust accordingly. It works.

Well I looked at the Sinclair catalog and It looks like the Primer pocket cutters cut at a set depth. I don't under stand where the adjustment comes in.

The K&M is adjustable,so is my old Sinclair). My Whitetails are a fixed depth of .131",large rifle). Call K&M and he will adjust one for the cutting depth you want and send it to you.
