Primer question from a newbie

6.5 mm Creedmoor cases can be had with either large or small primers. So maybe Fed 200 is correct. But it is a small primer, so Fed 200 "large" primer is self-contradictory.
I just checked with my small rifle CCI 450 primers in the primer pockets of the Hornady cases. Much too small to fit in the cases.

I learned elsewhere yesterday that Hornady 6.5 Creedmoor cases require the large primers.

Thanks for your suggestion.

Thanks for that. And I'm thinking you and others might be correct, that the guy made an error in which primers he was using.

His recipe is
H4350 powder: 42.0 GR
Projectiles: Sierra 142 GR HPBT MK
Brass: Hornady

His reloads actually shoot very well in this gun which was custom built (the gunsmith apparently is no longer in business).

I was going to start with a little lighter load, perhaps around 41 GR, just to be sure I didn't begin too high. I have approximately 70 of his reloads on hand, and I wanted to make some direct comparisons with my reloads.
just a quick check shows that load is right near Max. check the cartridge length on his loaded rounds as that will affect pressures also to a point.

Thanks, how much StaBall 65 powder are you using? The reloads I'm trying to replicate used 42.0 GR H4350.

Have you compared Staball and H4350?
I have NOT compared, H-4350 to, StaBall 65 . I was able to Buy a Bunch of StaBall 65 Cheap @ Sub $35.00 lb. and It Shot, real Well, in My Tikka 6.5 Creedmoor, so that, I Never, looked back.
Bought 8-9 Pounds from, $31 to $35 per lb. and "Blended" ( Stirred Well ) All 3, Lot #'s .
My 6.5 Creed Load for, Deer / Antelope, Hunting,.. 143 gr. ELD-X, ( COAL 2.832" - 2.835" ) Peterson Brass Lge Pr's, F-210 M Primers, 43.1 grs StaBall 65 Powder @ 2,735 fps @ 24" and 1/2 to 5/8ths, MOA accuracy.
Plinking Steel / Varmint Load,.. 130 grain Horn ELD-M's @ 2.837" - 2.840" COAL, Peterson Brass, F-210-M Pr, 43.3 grs of StaBall 65 powder,. Vel 2,850 fps and "Clover Leaf's" from, the .3's to Sub 1/2 MOA .
Work Up Loads Carefully In YOUR Rifle,.. But they ARE Below Maximum, Per Hogdon's, Reloading Data.
PS; the 130 gr. M's Have Practically, No recoil from, My 8 Pound, PVA Braked, 24 " Tikka SS, T-3X.
I have adjusted, the Elay Precision, Spring, in the Trigger to, 1.25 lbs and have, a 6X-24X Vortex Viper, Scope,..
All of which Help's to, shrink Group's !
Good Luck !

If you don't get a good answer from him just use either cci 200 or federal 210 which ever one you can get. More than likely there won't be much difference in accuracy. Just drop down a little in powder charge and work your way back up seeing where it wants to shoot.

@ TomSawyer,..
I've Found Lapua and Peterson 6.5 Creed. Brass to, Shoot about, the SAME, "Accuracy Wise".
Peterson IS, Slightly Thicker Brass so, "Work Up" loads, carefully with It.
Since I Live in Idaho and sometimes Like to, Shoot / Hunt Varmints, in Dec & January ( I Don't want, to chance,.. ANY Miss Fires ),. so I'm staying with, Large Primer Brass & StaBall 65, Seems to be, "Temp Stable".
Note; that, I have also Moved, the Bullets, Further towards, the Lands to, Shoot Better group's, in My rifle.
