AR’s have floating firing pins. When the bolt slams forward chambering a fresh round the only thing stopping the inertia of the firing pin is the primer which is the reason for not using the thinner cupped primers.
As far as piercing small primers with a bolt action, it’s because you need your bolt bushed, right?? Well, sorta. It’s not so much the sloppy fit of pin to hole as it is the oversized for small primers pin itself. The large firing pin displaces too much material when it strikes causing it to rip open. Bushing the bolt is a fix as it includes turning down the diameter of the pin as well as tightening the fit of the pin and the hole.
I’ve ran 400’s through my BAT B’s WAY hotter than I should have ever been regardless of primer and not had any piercings.
Just a little FYI that I’ve read over the years.
