Primer pockets

I was curious what the benchrest guys do with their primer pockets ? Uniform? Just clean carbon? Nothing? Curious if uniforming can have any bad side effects with primer being too deep or the change from the face of pocket going from concave to flat after uniforming.

Have uniformed mine for years with no problems. My cutter is set and can only go so deep. I use it to clean carbon out of my fired brass also.

If you use a properly designed uniformer such as Sinclair's you cannot go too deep.

I uniform my primer pockets but truthfully I see no measurable improvement in accuracy by uniforming pockets. However I do it because it makes it easier to remove the carbon from a spent primer.

I do believe there is value in removing the carbon from the pocket so that you obtain a solid fit of the primer in the pocket.

primer pocket cleaners, crimp removers, and chamber tools

If you are referring to a PPC/220 (LAPUA OR NORMA) case no primer uniforming is necessary, just consistent primer seating depth. I do deburr inside the flash hole. I use the primer pocket cleaning tool for removal of carbon only.
