Primer Pocket uniforming??

Hey guys

During case prep I do allmost everything, trim, neck-turn, de-burr and chamfer neck, debur flash-hole, only neck size, clean inside and out.

Will uniforming the primer pocket make groups smaller @100y with a .243 win hunting rifle? Or will it only have an affect at longer ranges? Any affect at all?

Currently getting .4MOA constantly.
Please help. Don't want to buy uniforming tool if unneccessary.

Got the Sinclair. Great tool. It helps you seat a primer properly i.e. without jarring going in. It gets the proper depth. We just run our finger over the top after seating to make sure it is flush. Some say it is unnecessary but the original manufacture may not be perfect and it helps those minor imperfections. Anything that helps align the bullet trajectory must aid accuracy?

Personally, I feel that a .4 group from a hunting rifle is pretty darn good. What is more important, is how well it repeats it's cold shot.

i shot .7" 3 shot group at 268 yards one day last week. I uniformed them the first time i run through the brass. I quit after that. Prob on 4 or 5th firing. that's my best moa group at any range just slightly. I don't know. Gun shoots better than I do. ;D

I use a Sinclair primer pocket uniformer every time to clean the pockets.

Primers are meant to be seated with a slight crush, to pre-load the anvil.

To me, it's best done in a clean, square primer pocket.

No. You won't see any difference.

The more uniform you can make your reloads the better but I don't believe this is necessary for hunting reloads. If you decide to do it use a high quality tool such as the Sinclair tool which will help assure that you don't enlarge the primer pocket.

The good news is that it only needs to be done once and it will make it easier to clean the primer pockets. I do it because it makes me feel better :) and I'm loading for precision varmint hunting. However I couldn't prove to anyone that it has made my reloads more accurate. :-[

By the way shooting .4 groups out of a hunting rifle would meet my goals. ;) - that's very good in my opinion.

I do 7 exacting and tedious steps to match prep my match brass. Only four of them do any good.

No, I do not know which of the four that would be. :o

But..what ALF said. Once they are uniformed, just a 1/4 twist with the tool cleans the pockets shiny clean. Takes about 5 min to do 100 cases.

reloading is fun and relaxing. I've gotten to the point when I feel stressed I go out to the bench put on pandora, something light, and go to town. an hour or 3 later I'll have to say I feel better bout life.
