Primer Pocket Uniforming Tool

using it chucked in a drill running at low speed it is only cutting the corners of the primer pockets. About 5 seconds each case.

So I guess it is doing its job and I am using it correctly

K&M is my choice. I use a little Craftsman cordless screwdriver. To get the primer pocket uniform, you should see a bright, shiny bottom in the primer pocket. Sometimes it takes a bunch of pressure and sometimes very little. Play with it and you'll get a "feel" for it.

ok only shiny around the edges. Right in the middle it leaves the powder residue. So that means I am not doing it enough?

you should start by cleaning your cases, the powder residue is keeping the cutter from reaching the bottom of the primer pocket.

you do have to apply some pressure..

with that much dirt you might have to pull out 10 times to release dirt, it only cuts very little at a time.

when done correctly your primer pocket should look like this.

ok so that verifies my thought about probably best to do this with virgin brass. I have a primer pocket cleaner that Lee makes and it does not get all the crud out. Here is what they look like after going back through them and doing like you said of cutting then get crud out then cut again and tap crud out. Had to do it abot 3 times per case. Going to go back again tonight one more time. When no brass shavings come out that is when it is finished correct?

I agree with Preacher, and not with Dansig.
Don't overdue cutting with adjustments beyond standard. The Sinclair depths are correct.
The object of this is uniforming to a standard depth -for primer crush. It is NOT to cut pockets until they look completely shiny.
Look at your primers. They rest at the pocket edges, nowhere near flash holes.

the K&M tool is set according to SAAMI specs so if it cuts the pocket clean then the pocket was smaller than the SAAMI specs.

the only cases I've found that the tool doesn't cut perfectly clean is the Lapua cases, those seem to be according to SAAMI specs and the tool fits without cutting.

it's impossible to cut to deep with the K&M tool with factory settings.
